Jon Huntsman best represented the demeanor, knowledge, and experience of a conservative candidate that would truly have made a great president.
He, of course, was criticized by Mitt Romney for the unspeakable crime of being fluent in Chinese. 'Cause we like our leaders ignorant and proud of it.
Carson showed himself unfit to be President during the last debate, when he tried to play both sides of the street on vaccination, first saying (correctly) that vaccines don’t cause autism, then showering the audience with turds of ignorance about supposedly unnecessary vaccines and giving credence to the “too many too soon” meme:
Sort of hilarious that David Brooks in a column today listed Carson as one of three candidates he foresees having the best shot at the nomination because they allegedly occupy the ground between bizarro outsider and slick pol (the others are Carly Fiorina and Chris Christie, neither of whom have a chance in hell of being nominated).
*by the way, CAIR, Carson’s statement doesn’t “disqualify” him on Constitutional grounds, it just means another reason not to vote for him.
For many, many generations, the rules was:
‘Thou shalt not speak badly of another Republican’
Even when the Right hijacked the Party and nominated Goldwater, the others said nothing.
That one GOPer would publicly criticize another was unthinkable.
Don’t expect much from them, even when one of them goes entirely off the rails.
It seems that the rest of the clown car has decided that Trump isn’t really a Republican (duh), so he is fair game.
Carson is a Republican, so no criticism.
The party of the old, white, scared male is now trying to scare its remaining members even more.
I’m not sure who it is that the OP expects to show outrage. The Republicans won’t because they largely agree with this. Any who don’t lack the courage of any sort of conviction - there is no such courage left among the Republicans. Look at the crazy statement/question Trump fielded about Obama, Muslims and when can we get rid of them.
People on the left? Well, sure they’re outraged, but the Republicans all say crazy, batshit lunatic offensive things all the time.
The press are there just to write down what he said and what she said. They don’t care to evaluate the content of what people sat.
Except that he says, in the same interview, that he thinks Obama is a Christian.
If we interpret Carson’s statement generously, it seems to be based on a belief that Islam is not compatible with the UC Constitution. Certainly that is true of some versions of the religion, but not all. It’s also true of some versions of Christianity-- most notably the brand practiced by that whack-job clerk in KT who wouldn’t issue marriage licenses to gay couples claiming she had a greater responsibility to God than to US law. If MtP moderator Chuck Todd had his wits about him, he would have asked Carson about that.
It’s not surprising or upsetting that Huntsman didn’t win. It’s difficult to take the high road on the Presidential level: at best that establishes your cred for a future run.
No, the problem is that Huntsman never received a bump in the polls. Cultural warrior Rick Santorum received a bump. So did freaking Michelle Bachmann. As did the more plausible but temperamentally challenged Newt Gingrich. Perry and Herman Cain got a bounce. But Huntsman’s polling averages never cracked 5%: he couldn’t even make it into Ron Paul territory.
Sorry Stringbean, but you are a Democrat. The crazy tail wags the GOP dog: the only thing that will make them see reason is electoral collapse, followed by the establishment of a bunch of new think tanks. Neurotypical conservatives have a hard road ahead: I don’t envy them.
He’s absolutely right. Muslims are a group of retrograde fanatics that follow the teachings of a pedophile and have a minimal cultural and historical tradition to the United States. Islam has no place in America, much less any Western country, and we should stridently refuse to grant citizenship to any Muslims, and certainly refuse to give them any control of our political institutions. An astonishing number of Muslims want Shariah law, refuse to repudiate Al Qaeda, and reject free speech. God knows why anyone who wasn’t themselves a crypto-Muslim or sympathizer would want one as President.
The writer of that piece makes a mention of an article by Johna Goldberg referring to the “Trumpen proletariat” that is following Trump and others:
Whoa, when the writer of a debunked book like “Liberal Fascism” is not happy to see how Trump and its followers are “damaging conservatism” one should take notice.
Nobody here cares what “grinds your gears”. You’re like the guy who was deliberately not invited to the party but who won’t leave. He thinks he’s getting away with something, but he’s just making people think he’s even a bigger jerk than before. This web site is dedicated to fighting ignorance. You are dedicated to spreading it.
Well I did not expected this to turn into a test of your intellect but you just showed all how dismal it is.
If a little bit of reading was done you would had seen that indeed there is a reason why you had to deny a thing that was not being mentioned, it was to avoid that we are talking about your bigotry against Muslims.
