Where is the Wii?

I wanted to buy a Wii. Specifically, I want to buy one with the Fit package.

They’re all gone! The websites for Best Buy, Target, Sears, Kmart and WalMart all say they’re sold out - not available for online ordering and not available in stores near me.

The guy at hhgregg (a local chain similar to the dear departed Circuit City, but afraid of capital letters) said at Christmastime, he could hardly give the things away. Now, he says people are clamoring for them.

Did Nintendo stop making them? Are we about to see a Wii2?

Nope. Nintendo still has trouble making enough to keep up with demand. I’m not sure what that guy at hhgregg was talking about since they couldn’t keep them on shelves this Christmas either. In four or five months the demand will drop a bit again and you’ll see them from time to time but right now they’re flying off the shelves.

Eh, I think Nintendo tries to limit supply to keep prices up. I find it darn hard to find a bargain on a title worth buying… bloody wiimotes are AU$65 in the shop.

There is usually a steady supply on craigs list.

Despite the Wii coming out three years ago and still being so popular Nintendo struggles to keep up with demand, people are STILL claiming it’s a failure for this or that obscure reason completely unrelated to sales.

Possibly you could argue that it is according to some other metric, but I think the Nintendo execs are too busy having money fights in the board room to take time to listen.

That’s ridiculous.
They throw gilded diamonds at each other.

I can’t remember the last time I went into Target or Best Buy and didn’t see a giant stack of Wiis. I think the OP’s experience is out of the ordinary these days.

This seems to be a recent thing. Wii sales were down and they finally started to cut back on production:

They must be picking back up again because they’re all out around here.

Try Gamestop, that’s where I got mine.

My wildass guess is that some areas got hit on the Wii supply by a combination of Christmas giving and New Year’s resolutions, especially since the Wii advertising lately seems to include promotions of the Wii Fit Plus, EA Sports Active Plus, and the others (Jillian Michaels, that dancing game, etc.).

I think you’re absolutely right. The Wii saw an opportunity with becoming another exercise fad device (i.e. iron gym, ab roller, gazelle) and is milking it for all it’s worth.

I picked up Wii Fit Plus at the local Toys R Us about 3 weeks ago. They still had a big stack of Wii consoles behind the counter.

I bought a Wii two weeks ago at Gamestop.

After I went to two Best Buys, a Wal-Mart, and two other Gamestops which were all sold out.

I just bought a Wii and some assorted things. Nobody had everything- I ended up getting the Wii at Ultimate Electronics, an extra Wiimote at Target, Rock Band 2 at Best Buy, and Wii Fit at a completely different Target 20 miles away. I visited a bunch of places and called the rest. FWIW, Target’s online inventory was wildly inaccurate. Every store said they couldn’t keep any Wii stuff in stock and were waiting for more from Nintendo.

KMart. If you’ve still got one, KMart. It is the absolute, hands-down BEST place to find things that are sold out everywhere else, simply because no one shops there. When is the last time you went into one? 1995? You and everyone else.

I needed a DS about 3 years ago, and they were sold out for months already. I found four in KMart. They were sold out everywhere else for the next eight months, yet every time I went into KMart, they always had at least a couple.

A friend of mine was recently looking for the new Mario Bros. game, and he searched everywhere. Target, both WalMarts, 3 gamestops, 2 independent stores, and Best Buy. Eventually he called me, asking if I knew, and I directed him to KMart. They had eleven copies. I know you said KMart’s website thinks the store is sold out, but try giving them a call. Something tells me Kmart doesn’t have the world’s most up-to-date software.

Keep trying, don’t give up, and with enough perseverance you will eventually find one.

After all,Where there’s a will, there’s a Wii.

So true. Everyone I know who got Wii Fit used it once or twice and never touched it again (myself included).

We’ve had ours for over a year, and my wife does yoga with it at least twice a week.

Two replies. I think that’s a record.

Well, for the record, this is a load of shit. All you’re seeing is the after Christmas rush that has left retailers a bit depleted of Wiis. Nintendo only sold almost 4 million of them after all.

I’m sure we’ve either tied or broken the record before.
