Yes, I did just play Reaper of Souls to the end, why do you ask?
My husband hasn’t played the beginning games and I’m feeling a little nostalgic so hit google to see if we could acquire the first ones and wasn’t able to find what looked like a safe download.
Does anyone have any ideas? Of course we are willing to pay for a legal copy, but it doesn’t seem as though Battlenet has it.
If we were to find a CD copy, would it work with Windows7?
Look at the used section. But you can probably go cheaper.
BTW: all the classes are pretty much the same. The Rogue has the least-crappy ability, but you won’t use them much, anyway. Plot is: go to (my names) church, then, catacombs, then weird place, then hell, then kill Diablo. IIRC the quests are random, e.g. you can find 10/15 in the first area, and might get the rest if you do New Game+.
But at least you’ll learn where “Ahh! Fresh Meat!” comes from.
Googling suggests mixed success with Vista-7-8 etc. But these are hardly authoritative cites. If you can tell me where my copy is, I’d install it for you!
I never tried the semi-unofficial addon. It’s not as good as D2/D3 addons.
Edit: the Tristram town song is still very awesome.
When I first played through D3, I wasn’t fazed by any of the other act bosses… Lords of Hell? Yawn. But I nearly soiled my pants when I saw who we had to fight at the end of A1, because I had played D1, and I remembered.

thelurkinghorror, thank you for the link. While I was looking at games, my husband went through my crate of old games and found both of them.
D1 plays, but the colors are really icky. Hellfire won’t download yet. I’m so spoiled, its soooooo slow, and I remembered it being such an exciting, fast moving game.
Googling suggest you may be able to fix the colors if you download the official patch. There are also a bunch of people saying you can fix them by opening up your Display control panel (the one that lets you set the resolution) before playing the game. And then don’t ever minimize it.
