PepBoys and J C Whitney sell them, I remember looking a few years ago. They started at around $150 and went up from there. I would try a body shop for the install.
Keep in mind that it will decrease the stiffness of your car’s bodyshell, though. It will shake and rattle more over bumps.
Sunroofs fitted at the factory don’t cause this problem because the sides of the roof get additional bracing.
In my area looking in the yellow pages under ‘automobile sunroofs’ gives about six places that sell and install aftermarket sunroofs. A lot of places that sell car audio, car alarms and remote starters also sell and install sunroofs.
Not necessarily. Really. It depends on the vehicle and how it’s put together. Generally speaking, the roof is just a piece of sheet metal hung between the body sides (door rings) and the front and rear assemblies. On something long like a van/SUV there’s likely some ribbing across from side to side. I doubt that the sunroof installer would cut through that!
I wouldn’t worry about it.
