Where Was This Picture Taken?

Great call! It’s one of the more obscure castles I’ve been to, hence its inclusion in this quiz.

Yes, I’m amazed that anyone on here has been there too! I went to Estonia in 2001 and pretty much looked at the map and thought, that island looks quite interesting, and got the bus out there from Tallinn. I’m pretty sure this is the house I stayed in, right in the moat of the castle.

Saaremaa island is also home to a rather small meteor crater.

I have managed to wrangle Google into giving me this!

The West Baden Springs Hotel in Indiana. That one was bugging me.

I was there around August 2001. Did I see you?

No, I was there in May, IIRC.

Here’s a new one. Number 60, I think?

  1. Where in the World?
  2. Where in the World?
  3. Where in the World?
  4. Where in the World?
  5. Where in the World?

Bonus (probably impossible to get exactly right)
Bonus

Jumping in ahead of Siam Sam, 64 is one of the temples at Ayutthaya in Thailand.

61 looks familiar. South of France, Nice maybe, taken from the hills behind? The pine trees look Mediterranean.

I’m kind of glad you got in there, ahead of Sam, since that would be a slam dunk for him. Or anybody that was a big fan of the movie version of Mortal Kombat.

And 61 is not the South of France.

That was my immediate guess, but then I said “Naw, couldn’t be.”

Am I in the right ballpark with Mediterranean?

And is the flag on 63 a red herring? It doesn’t look like the UK to me.

No

Yes

Is 63 Gibraltar?

It reminds me of Toronto, the area around Finch and Yonge maybe?

I read ShibbOleth’s comment, but I agree, it does look like the South of France. To me, it looks a lot like the view from Jack’s Peak, or from somewhere on Holman Highway in Monterey, California, but I don’t think it is. Some of the trees sure do look like Monterey Cypresses though.

I can’t think of any two story Mickey D’s off hand. Particularly ones with such…eclectically dressed clientele. It would help if I could read the language on the door at the top of the stairs and the menu.

Wild shot in the dark: the McDonalds at 2011 Mission Street in San Francisco, CA? It looks like it’s two stories, from Google Street View.

No.

No, and it’s NOT in San Francisco. Also, it’s usually not so “festive”. I was sort of awestruck by the whole scene when I took that shot.

WAG: It’s got a Berlin Love Parade vibe to it and there is a 3 story McDonald’s in Berlin.

Not sure the type of tree, but I don’t think that they are.

You’re getting warmer, but not in Berlin.

Amsterdam?

Why cheat? I recognized it immediately, even though I was last there in 1976.
