Where Was This Picture Taken?

Oh my, that’s where the mass shooting was.

All of you have gorgeous photos. Makes me wish I were able to travel more!

Here are some I have:

55
56- this one’s a little dark and I took it with my phone, but I think the details are mostly visible.
57

Yes. Between that and the convict history, it’s a bit of a sombre place. Beautiful spot, though.

It’s not how I imagine South Carolina to look, but I Googled and I can kind of see what you mean. Wrong continent, though.

Or it could be Google’s omnipotence.

I’ll be more specific: It’s in the US.

My first thought was Hawaii, but I wasn’t confident enough to post that until you gave this clue. Either that or Guam, but I don’t think there are mountains that high there.

I wanted to say Hawaii when I saw it, but you live in such an exotic locale, I was sure I was wrong. Now you’re going to tell me Hoboken, NJ.

Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown?

I have two more. Both are not-particularly good shots of interesting buildings. Some people may know the first one on sight; I didn’t.

I do believe you are right.

Edit: no 58 is where John Lennon got shot.

You’re right! The Dakota.

Yep, DC’s Chinatown is correct for mine.

Ellen Cherry****, I’d been to the “imagine” mosaic in Central Park so many times before realizing that duh, the Dakota is right there. I knew what the Dakota was, just wasn’t paying attention. Is the picture of the Verizon ad in New York’s Chinatown?

I’m intrigued by 59. It reminds me of a mosque, but it doesn’t have traditional minarets.

Without looking downthread, the first one is from the top of Stone Mountain, GA looking back on Atlanta.

Don’t really know on the next four.

It looks like a cross between a circus big top and a Russian palace, in the middle of a wood. I have no idea!

I doubt it as boat registration number in the US are 8 characters with the first two characters being state designators, i.e. SC for South Carolina. I’m guessing outside of the US.

Right, it’s not in the Americas at all. The tower predates the USA by almost 700 years.

Has anyone pegged this one yet? It looks very familiar to me, but I have a feeling it’s not where I think it is.

GuanoLad got it in post 15. (And I knew it too  ) Cradle Mountain, Tasmania.

It’s Topeka, Kansas. No, I mean yes, it’s Hawaii. The Manoa Valley in Honolulu. The very near buildings belong to the U of Hawaii and the East-West Center on campus. The farther area is residential, and a nice neighborhood too. It’s where George Clooney lived in The Descendants.

I don’t think this one has been done. My first instinct was Tallinn - looks like one of the defensive towers in the walls, but then I realised that it’s in another part of Estonia. Kuressaare Castle - I stayed for a couple of nights at a guesthouse on an island in the moat 10 years or more ago!

Yes!
