Where'd all my images go?

Second try…damn it.

Ok, a week or so ago I did a big computer update and software install. The many things were installing Norton Internet security and Norton Anti-Virus, and about 4 passes over with Windows Update. The big one there was Internet Explorer 6 SP1.

Ever since then, when I browse to various websites some or all of the images will appear broken. For example here on the SDMB when I load a Forum Index page about 2/3 of the images along the left edge will not appear, you know the envelopes and the “go to first new post” arrows. The goofy thing is that some instances one image will appear in one line and not another. So its not all/ the arrows are missing, only a few.

Also when I cruise the occasional, um, photo gallery the photos will all be broken but the page graphics will appear. On some sites it varies page-to-page whether or not I have an issue.

My gut tells me this is some odd IE SP1 issue, but I’m not sure. Anyone have any guesses?

Strange. I was getting that problem too, so I upgraded to IE6 SP1 and all was well. Perhaps you could go to Add/Remove Programs and first attempt a repair of IE6, then uninstall and reinstall IE6, and as a last resort go back to the previous version and wait for SP2 or IE7.

Does anyone know of any reason why this might be something other than that IE 6 SP1? Could it possibly be the NAV or NIS?

I’m gonna try uninstalling that Service Pack this weekend and see if that helps. Although its not a problem that I really can recreate every time. Hope it works, I don’t wanna have problems finding porn for god’s sake.

I use Norton Personal Firewall which tends to block ALL images and most icons.

Solution: Disable the firewall while browsing.

Um, then why have a firewall?!?!!

Now I turn the firewall on when I’m not online; I use a cable modem.
