Thank you chela, and Qadop, I would never have considered Hormel packaged beef tips, I will keep that in mind when I go shopping. For what it is worth; the last time I made stroganoff I used stewing beef which I had bought before the neighbor who took me to the store had her surgery at the beginning of January. It was packaged in a zip lock bag so it wasn’t freezer burned, when I defrosted it, I sliced it, then soaked for about 30 minutes in a brine sort of, of baking soda and water, then I rinsed it thoroughly, and it was tender and flavorful….that is when I used a combination of the Betty Crocker recipe and Campbells soup company recipe where you use canned soup (in lieu of flour for thickening) and I did add brown mushrooms, and I sort of jiggered things around to make it taste good. I don’t care for the flavor of caramelized onions so I cooked them separately to keep an eye on them but I bet it tasted better than Stouffer’s did, which I never had.
