Um, Allie (a cat) was the one who had the run-in with DH’s desk chair. She’s fine, she was apparently just being dramatic about it. Siamese are good at that.
Misty stays IN the cage, due to cats. Birds are not typically house-breakable, so yes, a free-flight bird would make a mess.
Back from BP check and picking up dry-cleaning. Not feeling all that energetic today, so probably archive-binging a webcomic, playing stupid phone games, and general sloth are on today’s game plan. Wish I knew when fast-food places, especially Pop-Up Clown, will have fish sandwiches.
Sounds kinda like what we had yesterday: arepas, which are basically fried cornmeal pancakes, filled with pulled pork, black beans and topped with a fried egg. And chili is good on top of most anything: rice, hotdogs, hamburger patties, biscuits. . .even spaghetti, if you’re from Chicago.
IME McDs always has them. Arby’s and Burger King usually has them. Culver’s during Lent has walleye, which is excellent and worth the trip. Lent starts Wednesday, February 22. None of which is very useful information unless you also live in an upper Midwest fair percentage of population is Catholic area but at least Mumpers know I’m still interested in your goings on.
The Lenten Culver’s walleye fish platter is worth seeking out. Plus you are already there so you might as well get some ice cream too.
I’m not that wild about McD’s fish sandwich. Reminds me of the fish sticks served in my grade-school cafeteria. Might give Arby’s a shot. I do like JitB’s version. I don’t think Culver’s exists in northern California.
We had breakfast at Denny’s - it was OK, especially after I got clean silverware. Someone was asleep when putting forks and knives into the little paper baglets. Anyway, we were on the road about 9 and came back thru Delaware - supposedly 15 miles shorter than the way we went on Firday. Then we stopped at Bacon in Annapolis to look at boat stuff. It’s a consignment store for that started out dealing with sails, and you can find all sorts of boat-related stuff there. We wandered around for a little while, then continued home, stopping to pick up my car with its shiny new rear brakes.
We’ve unpacked, I sorted the dirties we brought back, and put away everything else. FCD is chilling in front of the TV and I’m thinking about starting our taxes. Maybe.
Roxy’s fever broke this weekend - she had 2 normal days in a row, so huzzah!! MIL got to Indy safely, and she said she wants to come back a week from today. So FCD will drive out there on Sunday and bring her back on Moanday. At the moment, the long-range forecast looks decent.
And so our escape winds down. I get the kid again tomorrow, and life goes back to routine.
Around here chili on top of spaghetti is called “Cincinnati Style”. I don’t know the reasoning behind that moniker but my guess is one day a restaurant owner in Cincinnati had some excess spaghetti to get rid of. I don’t mind spaghetti in my chili but consider it unnecessary and makes it messier to eat. I slobber chili juice all over my beard as I try to suck up the noodles.
Now who puts peas in chili? My MIL. I love the woman dearly but there are somethings you just don’t do. Peas in chili are an affront to humanity.
I got two packages today. One was my ‘new’ (vintage) Levenger Mediterranean fountain pen. I got it from eBay because the little circular end cap on the cap is lost from the one I bought a couple of decades ago. The other was a new-condition, Vietnam-era, olive drab rifle sling for my retro build.
JtC, the cedar waxwing reminds me a bit of a female cardinal. As for doggio’s and my music taste, I’m thinking hanging out in Irish pubs may have something to do with it.
I’m impressed with a whole Frosty Paw consumption doggio. Hugs to you.
oopsie, there are people who I feel no personal loss for their passing, but feel for those who loved them. It’s pretty normal.
Glad Roxie’s feeling better Mooooooom.
morty, Cincinnati chili is a thing all unto itself. They tend to make it a little sweet, put detectable cinnamon in it and you get your choice of toppings. Should you make a road trip, I would go for a Mom & Pop place, but Skyline does make a fairly decent bowl.
It was 31F when I left for irk (had to scrape frost) and 62F when I came home. How the heck should one dress with a 31 degree swing?
I had to leave Nelson shut in the bedroom today because maintenance was coming in to check for leaks. I could have crated him, but he’s much happier burrowed down in my covers.
I began irk with a plantwide issue of the program we use to wipe data from phones. After that, I was notified that they were tearing down my irk station, so I would be homeless (I found a vacant station to park in).
Once KP is done, I’ll play around in the studio for a bit before pre-bedtime surfing.
Howdy Y’all! Da cave got spiffed and we slothed as we are wont to sloth. Sup got cooked and et. The kitchen got cleanded up. Now we sloth some more. The two of us really know how to live it up!
Oopsie it is not unusual to not feel sad when someone, even a relative, you never had much to do with dies. Maybe feel out your dad on the issue and decide whether or not to go based on his feelin’. Of course there’s always the not able to get away from irk for that long excuse.
doggio I am sure Gordie is unhingin’ his jaw and snarfin’ down limitless Frosty Paws in doggie heaven.
MOOOOOOM glad RoxStar’s fever is gone and that y’all made it back safe and sound.
Mort peas in chili makes me sad. Also, brunch can be whatever you want it to be. That’s why such delicacies as chikin 'n waffles exist.
This is why the SIL became a vegetarian about 18 years ago, well that and in his mind, the fact that there’s something wrong about growing corn for the cows. I don’t follow the logic.
Did not know this; will have to make a trip. Hubs loves himself some walleye.
Did know this. I do live in an upper Midwest state, the Mitten, and am Catholic. I’m planning to buy some paczkis at the best Polish bakery I’ve found when I’m in Chi-town next week for fat Tuesday.
And barf on fish sticks. That was my Mom’s go to for Firdays during Lent.
FCD Welcome back. So glad to hear that Roxstar’s fever broke! Yay. No fun when kids or grands are sick.
Xavier offered my daughter in swimming. One of the perks that they mentioned was the Cincinnati chili. We’re not a fan. Haha VanGo, we tend to agree.
Layer for a 31* swing. Slacks with long unders and a blouse with sweater. At lunch or break, take off the long unders and the sweater.
Laundry done and hung, watched my soaps, NuStep, Back bend machine and Leg Press at the Fitness Center, bought some birthday wrap and picked up Chicken Gallaya for dindin. Delicious!
Time to relax, er sloth.
Turns out the Arby’s fish sandwich is at least decent (I still think JitB does it slightly better), and the mint chocolate shake will do until McD’s gets the Shamrock Shake in.
My youngest son lives in Ann Arbor~haven’t been to visit him there yet. They love to go to the Upper regions kayaking and hiking.
I can get paczkis here, albeit not very stellar ones from a supermarket bakery. I grew up Czech and they remind me of kolaches, just shaped different. I bet if I had homemade ones I’d be more impressed.
Agreed. Just spent the day babysitting my grandson, home from daycare with a fever and both parents had workdays not easily rearranged. I like being useful but wish it didn’t involve grandkidlet fevers and feeling punk. I read “Mama Llama, Red Pajamas” 47 times today, but hey, it made him happy. We watched “Little Nemo” cuddled under afghans on the couch. That be a strange movie for kids if you ever want them to go to dentist again.
