Jolly joker!

I’m in the orifice today. El Jefe says I can leave at 13:30 so I can be home by 16 o’clock for the Xfinity guy.

Everyone…I found someone who truly loves me. We aren’t officially in a relationship quite yet, but we love each other very much. It feels…so good.
Did anyone watch The Grammys? I didn’t but Hubs did, he the music guy. I was watching something different is another room. All of a sudden he yelled out my name and said to turn to The Grammys as one of my very favorite artists was on: Stevie Wonder. What a GREAT set!
I don’t remember who has the daughter that is a swimmer but wondering how the swim meet went over the weekend.
Our dead tree is coming down tomorrow. A guy rang our doorbell - he’d done some tree work for us a couple of years back and apparently he’s hungry for work - he’ll take down the dead oak (it’s a big 'un) and trim a couple of branches near the house - all for $1800. It helps that he doesn’t have to haul anything away - the branches will be left by my wood pile so I can cut them up for firewood and the rest will go into the woods to decay. With 3 acres, we’ll hardly notice. It’s a relief - I was expecting it to be $2500 just for the tree. So one less thing.
Tobias is napping - no small accomplishment getting him down. We’ll see how long it lasts. And I repaired a couple of his diaper shells (reusable pants with washable liners - LOTS cheaper than disposable diapers.) So now a little time to enjoy some quiet.
Keep the good kids parental pride coming~that way I can indulge in some too. Your kids give you plenty to be proud of. Keep telling us about them.

You mean the trunk will be set out to decay? Why not make firewood out of it?
As far as I know he went to daycare this morning. I kept my phone close by this morning but GrandmaNurse Boo was not called to duty. Good thing, I. Was so tired from two days in a row of grandkidleting that I was too tired to fall asleep so I drifted mindlessly through the night half watching Netflix’s New Amsterdam and catnapping. I’m not sure the last season of that show would make sense even if I wasn’t drifting in and out of sleep.
It seemed like a yucky snotty runny nose and some occasional coughing, with fevers in the morning. One of those 312 toddler illnesses brought home from daycare and big sister’s kindergarten the first 5 or 6 years of life. None of the rest of us seem to have caught it. His parents, my daughter and SIL are very careful about anything that might be Covid because of me and test at the drop of the hat before they let me come over. So far so good~between the 5 of us, it hasn’t caught any of us for 3 years. Of course even the baby is vaxed and boosted.
It would have helped yesterday if I had remembered to put on my portable oxygen concentrator before leaving my house. By the time I’d found the right glasses, put new batteries in both hearing aids, sucked in two asthma inhalers and swallowed my omeprazole pill I just hurtled out the door without it, not wanting to be late so my daughter could drive to the headquarters to meet the new boss of the bosses.Didn’t realize it til I was most of the way there and it was too late to turn around and go back. Usually it’s the hearing aids I forget to strap on. Those I remember about 50% of the time when I’m leaving the house. Shortly after I got there, the new boss of the bosses canceled their in person meeting and she got to work from home, skipping a quite boring interstate drive. She was miffed because she’d put on mascara and accessories for nothing and was dreading the wasted effort, plus the extra time added in her bedtime routine to take the makeup off twelve hours later. Personally, I try to avoid pissing off lawyers by wasting their time but the new boss may have to learn that for themselves. Truthfully, I’ve worked overtime to not piss her off since she was about 3~there’s good reason we’ve called her “tiny but mighty” since the moment of her birth.
Anyhow, the lack of the portable oxygen just meant I was more visibly short of breath-it doesn’t do harm for 8 hours here or there. Climbing stairs from the basement playroom or to the upstairs to put him down for his nap isn’t pretty to watch with a grandma sucking air but hopefully I learned something and it won’t happen often. Getting old sure ain’t for the faint of heart or spirit!
If I can get them to cut the trunk into short enough sections, I’ll rent a splitter. Otherwise, it’ll probably rot because we don’t have a big enough chain saw to do it ourselves, and after 10 spinal surgeries, FCD is no longer physically able to do that heavy work. I never was…
See if you can get them to chunk it up into 16-inch logs. No sense in it going to waste. I think we have a little bit of oak in the back of the little wood shed. We’ve been burning cedar, and it burns quickly. I’d love to have more oak. (But I’m not driving out to Merlin to get it.
)
Lookit me, postin’ in the MMP two days in a row! Woot! ![]()
Thanks for the notes regarding my uncle. The guilt isn’t about the fact that I won’t really grieve him, but the fact that a human being – a family member – is dying and my overwhelming feeling is one of selfish annoyance about the impending inconvenience! My dad has been providing regular updates to everyone via email, but I called him this morning to see how he’s doing and if he was up for talking about the situation. I learned that at this point my uncle’s doctors don’t expect him to ever leave the hospital, which is what I suspected: it’s a matter of when, not if. Dad and his other siblings have started preparing for the worst. If there’s a silver lining it’s that he knows my uncle wants to be cremated (and interred with their parents), which means there will be no hurry to schedule a funeral Mass/interment – a positive because two of the other siblings will need to book flights. I’m grateful that at least I’ll be able to drive: the cemetery is only 250 miles north. In the meantime my uncle is conscious and responsive and not in pain, so everyone is just playing things by ear for the moment.
I finally took Bailey back to doggy daycare today. She used to go at least twice a month, but hadn’t been to Dogtopia since she boarded in October! She’ll be boarding again in just over a week, while I spend a few days at a local jazz festival, but she’s been overdue for some grooming and time with other doggies. This morning I woke on up on the early side and she was playful/energetic and she ate all of her breakfast right away, so it seemed like the perfect day to finally take her. Every time I look at the webcam, though, she’s lying down away from the other dogs…so, maybe I’ve been right to feel like she actually prefers being home most of the time these days (she’s 14).
I’ll go get her in a couple hours, and am already looking forward to hearing her snore on the couch next to me all night. The house has been so freaking quiet today.
With good reason! Bring on the pride! ![]()
Yay! ![]()
Man, you all are writing a lot. I do wonder if MetalMouse is going to catch up on all the MMP posts after he gets back to civilization.
After some days of gray, we have beautiful blue sky, and +/- 5°C (41/23 °F) for the next few days. So it’s ALMOST warm in the sun, but gets rather chilly in the evening.
German speakers learning English: Tuesday/Thursday, sort of the same, right?
English speakers learning German: Dienstag/Donnerstag, sort o the same, right?
After so many years here, I always make sure to get the date, in addition to the day of the week. Everybody seems to be confused.
French and Italian don’t seem to have this problem.
Managed to clean the bathroom sinks this evening, so that’s one thing done, plus I even did a small load of laundry. Might actually catch up on chores.
Like that’s gonna happen.
Oh well, time for thinking about bed. Already had my medicinal Scotch (Glen Grant - was lurking in the back of the cupboard, and was about ½ full, so I am duty bound to finish it), so time to brush my teeth (extra well, because I have a dentist appoinement in the morning and put myself, plus hubby, to bed.
Good night, and stay safe!
Howdy Y’all! Errands and laundry got done. Then nappage occured. Then I needed a martini to help recuperate from all the earlier activity. OYKW is takin’ care of makin’ sup, so I get to loll about until time to eat. I’ll do the cleanup afterward so as not to be a total slug. Other than that it’s been the usual sloth and general overall uselessness as is our custom.
CatGlove happy doperversary!
Yanker you do indeed have a right to be proud of daughter and son. They are doin’ some excitatin’ stuff!
GodBod glad you found someone. Enjoy!
*Dicey that scotch is not goin’ to drink itself, you know.
Everyone else, this was a lot to read, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
I had the corneal doc appointment this morning. Sho’ 'nuff, he wants me to have the vitrectomy (sucking out the goop inside the eyeball). It has to be done by a retinal specialist. I have a regular check-up tomorrow with a retinal doc at the same clinic, but for some reason, corneal doc wants a different doc to do the surgery. I have an appointment with her on the 21st. This will be my 14th eye surgery.
My daughter made it to the third round interview for the new job she wants. Please send little rays of hope toward eastern WA.
Thanks so much for all the sensible and comforting advice on the cousin’s wedding.
Yeah, for a cousin. The mom is my first cousin. She lost the rest of her family in her twenties and thought of my mom as being her surrogate mother and us kids as her siblings/cousins. She’s STILL hurt that they weren’t invited to my son’s wedding, even though I explained that they were paying for it themselves and keeping it small. Also, the groom and my daughter always played together when we were in Cali. I hate destination weddings, too, but in this case, the bride and groom live in Vegas. Oh, and my brother says he’s hoping I go so he gets to see me. La famiglia e tutte. (Family is everything.) The Italian burden! ![]()
One of the many things we love about you.
Taters, you must have the same Internet company flyboy and I do. I got a notice yesterday saying my modem needs to be upgraded. Last time this happened was 4 years ago, and it was a PITA. I had to call yuckfinity, and it took them an hour to get me back on the Interwebz.
You raised some good humans there, Pullin. Nice work!
wordy, I am hoping and praying the news at the appointment is better than expected. You and your mom are troupers, but you shouldn’t need to be. Let us know when you can.
Nellie (lurching into venue): Hey, I’m late! Didjoo know too many hairs of the dog’ll get you blotto? I drank a coat. And I got hitched to Elvis! Or by Elvis. Or by elves. Also, Cirque de Soleil gets REALLY cranky when you run onstage singing, “Bend Me, Shape Me.”
Pearl, I love the line about a family reunion minus one. And your sister sounds like a peach.
Yikes. Now they’ll become homyphobic.
GodBod, congrats on the new love!
CatGlove, Happy cake day! Hope you brought enough for everyone!
Daughter had a relatively normal day, so I was out of there just a tad after 4. Supper was steamed shrimp, air fried crinkle fries, and green-beans-n-onions in a little bit of soy sauce. I’ll have an apple later. After a long weekend of eating all manner of less-than-optimum foods, it’s a struggle to behave myself. I’m going thru chocolate withdrawal!!! WAH!!!
Recliner time! I earned my chillage today.
I know y’all worry, so I am letting everyone know that supper is et and the kitchen is all cleanded up. I have also had some texts/emails//calls from folk about the Parish survey which is up and runnin’. People do not like to read instructions apparently. There is a very simple page of instructions at the very beginning that tells every thing one needs to know. I have referenced it several times. People be so weird!
Teaching got me in the habit of repeating instructions three times, and still I got this:
Me: Turn to page 287 in your textbooks. That’s page 287. (Pause.) Page 287.
Kid: Wait. What page?
Entire rest of class: PAGE 287!
Made coconut shrimp for the first time tonight. Came out pretty good, and not all that difficult to make.
TIL wild doves lurve boiled barley. They lurve it so much that they will crowd onto the small tray feeder and fight over it instead of pecking around on the ground like they usually do.
Hubs cooked beer this morning and I forgot to make arrangements to give the spent grain away so I put some out for the yard flock. Now that I know how much the doves love it I’ve got some spread out on cookie trays to dry so it doesn’t get moldy. Much as they love it, it will take them a while to go through 14 lbs.
Hubs also trusted the ice chest lid to foil GG’s attempts to get to the ice bath and sat down to kill monsters for a while. I heard the lid hit the floor and went out to find GG sitting next to the ice chest and splashing around in the water. I didn’t yell, I just picked him up and toweled him off then took him with me to the room with the unopenable door. I also didn’t yell at hubs, but I sure did think about it a bunch.
We have everything on auto-ship. No thinking and we get a discount.
Bastids.
You did an excellent job and have very good reasons to be proud!
“shit” sounds like an excellent word for such a circumstance, but I probably would have used SHIT!!! instead.
Hey, that’s what I did for my Vegas Wedding! Except for horking in the baptismal font, but only because there wasn’t one at the drive-thru Elvis wedding chapel we used.
That is always such a good feeling, enjoy!
Go you!!!
I’m out of those, will big rays of hope work instead?
As today is Tuesday, we are heading off to the Creekside Inn for their taco and margarita special. The taco’s are kinda blah but the margaritas more than make up for it.
nellie, Cincinnati chili isn’t bad if you accept that it’s not really chili, but a midwestern hillbilly dish of spaghetti. My mom used to make chili mac to make food go farther, so I got used to that as a child. Yay on your daughter’s interview.
ace, I feel ya on the prescriptions. Sometimes, I think it’s just a way to get my happy ass in to Tar-jay more often.
yank, you have a couple of kids to be proud of.
Irked, came home, did the usual. Such excitement!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Having a Manhattan and making shredded chicken tacos for Taco Tuesday.
I’m happy for you.

Oddly enough, I said it louder than the time a BMW 3 series going double the speed limit sweved into my lane for a moment.
