Maybe this thread could get to a more convincing place if we try to find the one place NONE of us have ever been to?
In my case, I have never been to any foreign country except Canada. I have yet to go to any USA state west of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin. I have also never been to Delaware or Rhode Island.
Surely that place that is common to all of us has to be some very exotic place, based on the replies to the other side of the issue. But where is it? Antarctica? North Pole?
I think I’ve at least driven through all of the states listed, except for Texas. And I’ve been to
The Mall, D.C
The airport in Frankfurt, Germany (Does anyone know what it’s called?)
Munich
Disneyworld
Bourbon Street
Anyone here gone to a concert at St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit? Or been to Cedar Point?
DC Mall (passing through, more or less)
Daytona Beach
Denver (airport only, though I’ll be there next month for a week)
NYC: across the GeoWash., through the Lincoln, up the Empire State building, and all over from the north of Central Park all the way down
Pretty much all the major Florida (Orlando and Tampa) attractions plus Key West/St. Augustine/Kennedy Space Center
Oh, yeah, and Gatorland
the music district in Nashville
Irvine/Newport Coast/Balboa Peninsula down to San Diego/Chula Vista
St. Simon’s Island in Georgia (up in the haunted lighthouse, too)
Airports? Tampa, Orlando, Newark, Denver and John Wayne (?)
Was born in Japan, but haven’t been there since. Been through Mobile and Columbus GA and points between. Pensacola. Gainesville and Tallahassee…
I am astonished by how many people have been to the Sirloin Stockade in Souix City, Iowa.
I have swam in (and perhaps peed in) the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Caribean, and many lakes and rivers.
I’ve been to the Alamo. Any of you guys ever see the basement there?
I’ve been on the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, the battleship Texas, The Seawolf (a submarine), and have stood on the deck of that tall ship (name anyone?) in Galveston, and the old whaler in San Fransisco.
Have you gone up the Zephyr lift at Winter Park ski resort in Colorado?
I’ve played in the surf of both the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, and Florida Bay. I’ve dipped my feet in the Pacific (it was cold that day.) I’ve never been close to the Great Lakes, though…
With respect, the planet has somewhat wider bounds than your list appears to indicate; I’ve travelled quite a lot, but never to any part of the USA.
Dang, I forgot that I’ve been to niagra falls several times.
Okay, I was wrong about this. It was either Chili’s or Applebees, not the restaurant widely known as Sizzlin Sirloin. (I believe it was Chili’s as I don’t recall getting sick after eating there.)
The Sirloin I went to was somewhere in Nebraska. Or maybe Kansas.
Good thing we’ve done all this winnowing down of where we have been. How about summit of Mt. Everest? Any Dopers been there? If not, we’ve got it.
If we do have a mountain climber or two, then how about Pitcairn Island?
Shoot, I wasn’t at either one of those, when I went to Houston. I believe it was named after a president. Most likely a Texas prez. Johnson? (I know I’m going to feel really stupid when I hear the answer.)
Not only did I visit the park several times in my youth, I worked in Kiddieland during the summer of 1979.
I’ve been to the World Trade Center in Stockholm. Does that count? I only went inside because I thought it was the train station, though.
I’ve never been out of Europe, so I’m raining on this happy parade.
Well, given that I’ve never been to Australia, and I’m certain that there are Australian Dopers who have never been to Canada, there may not be a place where all of us have been, even if we say something general like ‘sticking our toes in the Pacific Ocean’.
I like the idea of finding the one relatively-well-known place where none of us have been. I vote ‘South Pole’. Or maybe Nunavut.
I’ve been to Rome, never saw you anywhere near The Spanish Steps…fibber:D
Overnight in Atlanta, Georgia. Had car problems on the way to Orlando, Florida and Disney World. Night driving w/out headlamps is a no-no.
Stayed in New Orleans, Louisiana for a week.
