Where's this week's MMP?

OK, my sweetie’s Good Thing happened - he’s accepted a job working for a contractor who does work for NASA. He’ll be designing containers to move satellites and such from where they’re manufactured to the launch site. Believe it or not, this is a big deal job. You don’t just toss a satellite in a cardboard box with a buncha foam peanuts and let “Brown” take it. He’ll have to support the devices in a shock-absorbing container with temperature, humidity, and pressure controls. And he’ll have to accompany the devices from factory to launch site - following trucks or flying along in planes.

Coolness, huh? He’s pretty excited. Plus his commute has gotten 5 miles shorter each way - that’s a gallon of diesel a week! It’s like an automatic $2.25 per week raise!!!

So, yay for my sweetie. He’s not a rocket scientist, but he’ll get to hand with them and work with them.

You know Lissla, if I had your list of ingrediments I’d make a nice curry, ‘cause you can put almost anything in curry, and I like random veggies, and sometimes fruit, in mine. I’m just sayin’

Last night was an emergency dinner night. I cooked a TJs Biryani (vegetarian curried rice sorta thing) with about a pound of leftover ham and some shredded cabbage added. It was very good.

Oh and I appreciate your and ME’s condolences about my Altoids. Cut down in their primes, they were. They may be viewed in my trash bin until Saturday. Services at 6:00 pm Sat. night.

Yay FairyChatHubby! That sounds very cool! Where’s the launch site he’ll have to go to? Or is that top secret?

Kallessa, I hope you don’t break any teeth on those frozen Easter eggs.
It’s sad about Esther being egg-less, but many women manage to live fruitfull and fullfilling lives without children. Don’t worry, she’ll manage.

I think that depends upon what’s being shot where. He said one of the projects he’ll be assigned might take him to Australia!! But they told him it’s usually just a couple of trips a year, and I expect most of them will be to the Cape. Which is cool, since our baby goes to school down there.

Speaking of Easter Candy, I had to go to WalMart today, and they must have had 20 shopping carts FULL of leftover candy. I got one chocolate butter cream egg, just because. Self control. Or shortage of cash. Your pick.

Time for beddy bye! yawn

<unlurking for the week>

::speculating:: The contractor is working for Goddard Space Center, I presume…

I had a phone interview with them last week , myself, for a Civil Service job. Software engineering stuff. GSFC does some cool stuff with space probes. Too bad Greenbelt (MD) in a DC suburb; I’m as close to that area as I want to get…

I have worked 33 hours this week already and it’s only Tuesday. Actually 6 of those hours were last week but I put them on this week’s timecard. I intend to take a 4 day weekend.

Last night I got home and saw a couple dogs running loose. They had narrowly missed getting hit by cars. I thought I’d try to see if they had ID tags. One dog ran from me and the other dog saw me and started barking and ran toward me. “Great!” I thought, “I work with animals and have never been attacked* but now a dog on the street is going to get me.” So I crossed my arms and turned away from the dog and ignored him. He lost interest and ran off. The dogs eventually wandered off down the street. I did hear him barking at someone else later. So they either attacked someone or got hit by a car or eventually wandered home.
*Attacked is not the same as getting bit. I have been bitten a few times.

I think I’m doing some kind of vaguely mid-eastern stew thing. Lots of thyme and maybe sumac and pomegranate molasses. So far it’s got cabbage, celery, tomatoes, and green peppers in it. Lots of garlic and two icecubes of caramelized pureed onion. Don’t tell Mr. Lissar. We have a don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy regarding me putting disguised onions in things. Somehow my curries don’t turn out unless I use a readymade sauce, and I’m out. I do have tandoori paste, so I might do curried roast potatoes soon.

Or curried potato and cheddar subs. Sooo good. With extra hot sauce. There’s a wonderful sub place right near our favourite club, they’re open until 3 a.m., and they do incredible curried and satay-ish stuff on subs and what they call burritos. It’s fantastic. I haven’t had one of their curried potato subs in ages. Hmm. Maybe next weekend.

Sorry about the sucky week, Wile E. Have some chocolate peanut butter eggs.

Why did I have powdered Dream Whip? I have never in my life used Dream Whip in anything.

I have Dream Whip, too. I have a recipe somewhere for a frosting that uses Dream Whip. If I find it, I’ll let you know so you can use your Dream Whip!

The stew sounds fabulous! If I had pomegranate molasses, I wouldn’t know what to do with it.

Well, neither do I, really. It’s interesting-tasting, complex, sour and a bit molasses-y with a strong fruit taste. I’ll let you know if it turns out. I just bought it in a ME grocery store and know that it’s used with beef or lamb. The stew also has zuchinni and potatoes in it now. I think I’m getting fidgety from being home all day. Or maybe it’s the chocolate.

WOOHOO FAIRYCHATDAD!!! That does sound like a cool job! I have a mental image of him following a truck in a car with its flashers on and a big sign saying “Caution Wide Load” on the back of the car. Just like they do when they’re moving doublewide trailers.

I got to take my usual 6 mile route to work today. No bridges closed yet, but it might happen cause the creeks have not crested yet. Plus, we have rain in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, possibly up to 6 inches worth. The Moose Club parking lot is almost completely under water this morning. Poor Moose! They’ll have nowhere to go party til the water recedes.

Now hold on Kalley! I never said you were a mature adult. Not once! I was just sayin’ if you wanted to go buy likker and guns, well, no one could stop you.

But even as an adult (responsible, mature or otherwise) you can only buy a little cold medicine at one time. All the guns and likker you want, but go easy on the cold medicine.

Bumba, it’s a soap store! How can it not be clean? You’d thik a soap store would be super-hospital-clean all the time. What with all the soap on hand. Or is that it? Only your hands are really clean?

How do you feel about parks in general? And if you do like parks, how do you feel about hot dogs? It’s not like anyone would make you hike or nuthin’. Just sayin’, is all.

I think I have suddenly become allergic to coffee. Is that even possible? I don’t know, but it sure feels like it. I take a sip of the coffee, and then have to run into the bathroom where I <REMAINDER OF SENTENCE DELETED BECAUSE NO ONE REALLY NEEDS TO READ THAT STUFF.> So I got that going for me today.

We’ve got two job search-related posts this week. Good luck to taxi on her application (I think you really should take it if offered. The company has only 7 people in it now but down the line it could be a multinational corporation, and you would have gotten in on the ground floor. You would have flunkies galore then.)
As for FairyChatDad that sounds so cool. For the launches, I’m guessing he’ll have to travel not only to Kennedy SFC down in Coco Beach (where Major Nelson used to live) but also to Wallops Island on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. That second one is probably a lot shorter drive for him.

Swampy how did your fishing tournament go? Will the Outdoor Channel be showing any of it? Maybe you could get them to go film dangergene vaguely threatening monkeys out in Singapore. That sounds like it would be good television.

sean, if that’s an allergy, I have it, too. Well, maybe not the “running” part but I’ve always found coffee in the morning to be, erm, nature’s little helper?

Congrats to fairy chat dad and taxi! Wunnerful news.

I also would like to know the outcome of the Jawja Fishin’ Fest. Methinks, swampy may have been too busy handin’ out beers to “remember” the outcome.

I have nothin’ more to add ceptin’ maybe it’s time to put the “no snow” signs up for the season. We’re supposed to get up to 85 today. Yay!

Tupug

Good ol’ Wallops Island, where the skeeters are as big as seagulls and a whole lot more aggressive… If I don’t get a transfer or a new job altogether, I’ll be spending large portions of the next two years there for my project. I’m threatening to take a surf rod and a box of squid so I can fish during the down times…

Yay for the cool jobs and job possibilities!
My ankles hurt, because a cat was sleeping on them. Also, there doesn’t seem to be any hot water- the heater must be turned off or have exploded or something.

That’s my big exciting news so far today. I’m going to make breakfast.

The tournament turned out pretty good. The weather cooperated, cept right there at the end just as I was leaving a big storm came in but I was in my truck headin’ out so I didn’t get wet. There were 199 boats (that’s 398 fisher type people) which was the largest number of entries ever. This has been going on since 1988 (well, once a year since 1988, not like one big tournament that’s been going on since 1988) and usually nets us 20-25K, so it ain’t too bad. Specially since it ain’t a whole lot of work. Though passing out beer is tiresome and caused me to need several breaks to quench my thirst. Oh and the bbq was wonderful. I et me three or four bbq sammiches while I was there. The only really bad thing was driving back in a storm for 70 miles, mostly on a two lane road with lots of hills and curves. Popeye’s Fried Chicken in Cuthbert, GA is a good place to stop and pee between Eufaula, AL and Albeeny, GA. I wanted to let y’all know that in case anybody ever needs a good place to pee between Eufaula and Albeeny.

Oh and I don’t have TB. I got a TB skin test Monday afternoon and I got it read this morning. So, for another whole year I don’t have TB. That means ifn I do meet any of y’all and cough on ya it’ll be ok.

But, swampy, what about the WINNER???

I really got nothin’ so far this morning. Working on my first cup of coffee and getting my eyes open. Nevermind that I’m sitting here at work. I’m just not up to snuff yet today.

It is supposed to be sunny and warm today, which means I would really rather be sitting by my pool reading a book. Lord knows my legs need a little color.

I’m getting really hungry reading about all this deeeelicious food and I have to wait another hour for my lunch break. sigh

I’m also rather peeved about the whole Easter Candy thing, because I got myself one, count them, one Solid Chocolate Bunny for Easter (because I’m trying to lose weight…well, not really lose it in that “it goes away and I look for it” but lose it in that I’m trying to make it go away permanently) so I figured I’d just have a little bit of chocolate so I wouldn’t snorf it all.
DogDad ate the ears. Yes. The BEST PART of the bunny, and he ate the ears.
And this week is supposed to be National Half-Price Chocolate Week wherein I can buy bags of pastel-foil-wrapped Hershey Chocolate Eggs for like $1 each, but our local Krogers is evidently remodeling or something so they don’t have any Easter Chocolate on sale. What’s up with that? So now I can’t have any Chocolate Bunny Ears, and no Chocolate Eggs.
This is not a good year for Easter Chocolate.

Thanks to all for the advice and comments on the job. I talked to the outgoing person last night and found out more about it. Although it’s associated with the 7-person organization, it’s actually in a separate organization, which, currently, is a one-person operation. So it’s an executive position. In charge of oneself, I guess. But it is very exciting. It’s working with some of the high-mucky-mucks in the area (actually, the president of my current company is on the board of this organization), trying to bring business to the area (so there go the multi-national, flunky-rich aspirations) and helping small businesses to grow. I don’t know if I’d be a good fit for them, but I’m going to apply and see. And if nothing else, it does feel good that they called me in the first place.

Congrats to **FairyChatDad **on his new job!!

And congrats on being TB-free, swampy!

MagicEyes, you seem to have a lot of dessert recipes and ingredients. We definitely have to get together when I’m in NC!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Puggy the winner’s were the fisher type persons who had the most fish by weight. I wasn’t paying any attention when they were weighing in but the top prize is $2500 and they award prizes all the way to 20th place which is $250. I never pay attention to any of that stuff cause, well, by that time I’m always a little buzzed and besides, I just don’t care. I’m a beer hander outer not a fish weigher inner after all.
