Northstar was always intended to be gay – his creator, John Byrne, was dropping hints (and none too subtle at that) since his first appearance.
No they didn’t.
Although on at least two occasions the retconned Wonder Woman mentioned that Amazons had sex with each other (“Why do you think we call it Paradsie Island?”) and at least one long-term Amazon couple has been shown.
Bobby Drake (Iceman).
Batman and Robin. It’s pretty obvious, really.
Suffering Sappho!
On the list linked to above, why is Beast mentioned as “Ambiguous sexuality”?
I guess that any well-educated, soft-spoken guy is automatically gay or something
Or is this just wishfull thinking by the fur-suit crowd?
In a fairly recent issue of New X-Men Beast was stood up by his current sorta girlfriend, Trish Trilby (is that her name?). As a sort of reaction to that, he began telling the press that he was gay. In his private discussions with his teammates, he said he was just doing it to provoke some extra controversy, as if being a mutant wasn’t enough. It’s pretty clear from his dialogue that he does not consider himself gay, so that website list might be a little misleading, but he has been a little misleading about it himself.
Captain Astro.
OK, OK - he’s already gay
It’s very unclear whether he considers himself gay. Part of the story line is that he recently underwent a “secondary mutation” causing him to change from his familiar simian form to something more leonine. His girlfrend, a prominent newscaster, nearly lost her career when gossip columns kept using the word “bestiality” in descriptions of the relationship. One of the defining traits of a new species is that it can no longer mate with the old species, and this is what’s happening to Hank McCoy.
Not as clear as her officially coming out to Morph a few issues before that.
He was trying to hook up with her, and she had to sit him down and explain why it wasn’t gonna happen. So, yes, she’s confirmed. (At least the Exiles version of her).
El Elvis Rojo mentioned Colossus… Hate to break it to you, but if he comes out now, it’ll be post-humously. He died to cure the Legacy virus.
Recent Uncanny X-men has had Northstar with a crush on Ice-man. For a while it looked like they were setting up Ice-man to be in denial, and for Northstar to help him face it. But now Bobby was kissing Annie, the mutant-phobic nurse in the latest issue, so maybe not…
Ah, I see. I haven’t followed the comics recently, so I didn’t hear about that little incident.
Apologies if I offended anybody, but I kind of identify with Beast personality-wise, and I’ve had my share of abuse from the ultra-macho guys, so I guess I’m kinda sensitive to it.
Still, it sounds like he’s not really gay. Perhaps he’s no longer sexually attracted to humans.
I’d to make a minor hijack, and ask a couple of X-men questions that I don’t think deserve their own threads:
Has it ever been revealed what Rouge’s real name is?
Mystique is nightcrawler’s mother, right? On the X-men animated series, she was also the mother of that guy who founded Friends Of Humanity. Sabertooth was the guy’s father. Is this true in the comics, too? If so, is Whatshisname a mutant-in-denial?
If I remember correctly, the Northstar thing did have one fairly amusing bit of fallout. That year’s issue of the Marvel Year in Review (a surprisingly mean-spirited but funny self parody that turned into shameless self-promotion after the first three years) printed the reactions of several characters, (Cap and USAgent, and a couple of others) on the relavation about his, ah, ‘gray hair.’
Cap’s went something like:
‘I feel that any citizen should have the right to pursue happiness without being . . .’
‘So, you approve of his being open about his gray hair?’
‘Of course I approve – His what? You mean this isn’t about . . .’
‘Thank you, Mr. Rogers.’
Wonder where I put those?
Wasn’t one of the crappier X-Men villain’s bi? I can’t remember his name, though. The Japanese guy (well, half, I guess) who was Sabastian Shaw’s son? (Shinobi Shaw, maybe?) At one point one of his underlings asked him weither he’d ‘like the snails, or the oysters tonight?’ The response? ‘Supper first, I think.’
They weren’t spandexers, but Nomad had a few briefly appearing gay characters. I remember being surprised that they came right out and said it. Around ‘91 or so, might have been the first appearance in a Marvel comic.
And really, one has to wonder about a bodybuilder who wears a leather hood, no shirt, leather pants, carries a giant pole, and calls himself ‘Zaran the Weapons Master.’
(Hey. It was the 70s)

‘I DID NOT PLAY A HOMO IN BEN-HUR!!’
Diceman:
Rogue’s real name has never been revealed in the comics. In the movie, her name was Marie, and I think that’s as close to the truth as we’ll ever get.
Graydon Creed was the son of Mystique and Sabretooth. He was a normal human who grew to hate mutants despite being the child of two mutants. He was eventually…
… assassinated by his mother when he ran for President on an anti-mutants platform.
Nightcrawler was Graydon’s half-brother; Mystique was the mother of both. Nightcrawler’s biological father has only recently been revealed, and he is…
… Azazel, who is apparently some sort of demon. Oh, and he and Mystique conceived Nightcrawler in a church. Yeah, too much information.
I wonder what it is about the shapeshifting muties. Putting aside Courier and Gambit’s passionate smooch, not only were Mystique and Destiny lovers, but there were some hints about AoA Morph as well (most notably a scene where he whines to Quicksilver that “you never made me breakfast in bed”).
No, one of the defining traits of a new species is that it can no longer REPRODUCE successfully with the old species. They could still have sex, and since Hank’s mind is still that of a humanoid, he would still find her attractive.
Ace and Gary?!?!?
Naw! I don’t see it. They’re just SuperPals!
“What are you looing at?”
“NOTHING!!!”
I’ll also nominate Batman and Robin.
Captain America. When has he ever had a stable relationship with a female? Can’t you just picture him going around discovering gay America?
Northstar is still gay. In Uncanny X-Men the poor guy has swooned for Iceman withut it being reciprocated.
Also, in New X-Men Ms. Frost pretty much stated McCoy had never had a homosexual thought in his life, exposing Hank’s flight of fancy statement. Doesn’t mean that couldn’t change anytime soon.
He’s had stable relationships with Sharon Carter, Sharon’s older sister Peggy, Bernadette Rosenthal and Diamondback.
Of course, he’s had stabler relationships with Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson; make of it what you will.
See! Cap is obviously bi. It’s just that Marvel doesn’t have the guts to expose him.
