Which comic superheros, superheroines or villains could plausibly go gay?

Well, Bucky was a minor when he served with Cap during WWII, so we’d have to tack “pedophilia” to the list…

Well…when you can become either sex, orientational matters tend to become irrelevant, I’m sure.

All this discussion so far and not a word about Mr. Nebula

Bucky was at least 16 at the war’s start, and 20 when he was killed. Cap was maybe 18 or 19 when he enlisted. Let’s not throw the “P” word around when discussing these two beautiful, self-sacrificing patriots.

And what about the Torch and Toro? Toro was actually the older of the two.

Only because the original Human Torch was an android, created to resemble an adult human being, more or less. Which kind of puts the whole physical relationship thing on the back shelf anyway.

Although, of course, there’s always Wanda and the Vision (who, ironically, was created from the abandoned chassis (so to speak) of the previously mentioned Human Torch.)

Re: Black Cat

If I recall correctly, the Black Cat narrated the opening scence in the Kevin Smith “Black Cat & Spider-Man” the Evil that Men Do mini-series (currently stalled) in which she mentions that she hasn’t been in a relationship for a while, male or female.

I’m mangling the exact wording but I’m sure it’s there.

Oh, I also nominiate Simon Williams: buff wanna-be actor, A.K.A. Wonder Man.

I wonder who inspired his super-hero name? Hmmm…

…Although according to the rec.arts.comics.marvel.x-books faq, the original plan was for Mystique to be Kurt’s father and Destiny his mother. And at various times Kurt’s father has been “revealed” to be a random German baron, and Sabretooth; both of these have since been retconned.

How do we know the information in that spoiler box? Are we taking Mystique’s word for it again? (After all, she was the one who identified the German baron as Kurt’s real father and later changed her story to say it was Sabretooth; she’s not generally known for being trustworthy.)

A little OT but…

The information comes from a very recent issue of Uncanny X-Men by Chuck Austen. The story of Raven/Mystique and Azazel is told in omniscient third-person, not by Mystique, so it’s not up to her (dubious) word. The full explanation for Azazel has yet to be offered, but he seems demonic, can teleport, and gives Raven her codename – “mystique”. Baron Wagner is her husband, whom she murders in the end lest he discover “their” child isn’t his at all. Sabretooth appears in flashback, but it’s a safe bet that Graydon was his only child by Raven. Actually a pretty cool little story IMHO and one that tries valiantly to clear up all that confusion between Nightcrawler and Mystique.

Superman was temporarily gay thanks to:

pink kryptonite. You can read about it in the trade paperback Supergirl: Many Happy Returns.

Seeing as how this thread has revived, let me just correct this bit of misinformation:

Nope. The Vision was originally believed to have been constructed from The Human Torch’s deactivated body, but this was later revealed to be untrue. The original Torch was reactivated by and joined the West Coast Avengers for a while. He has since lost his powers and retired.

Wonder Woman’s sexual predilictions were established long before any retcons. It was, in fact, part of her original appeal. Aside from mere lesbianism (hinted at, but never brazenly stated), WW was very into B&D and S&M. In the 1940s, she got tied up, slapped in chains, and “disciplined” more often than Betty Pages!

Her magic lasso was imbued with the power to make every one ensnared with it “submit to her every command” - which has since been watered down to making people “tell the truth.”

Frequently, WW’s captors were leather-clad Nazi warrior women like Baroness Paula Von Gunther and Fausta. (The Baroness was drawn looking suspiciously like famed bi Marlene Dietrich, btw).

WWs comedy sidekick was a hefty young gal named Etta Candy who was pledge mistress of a sorority at the Holliday School for Girls. There were often throwaway panels in the stories depicting kinky looking “initiation rituals” that Etta often oversaw.
