Which LOTR Character Are You?

I just found this site, and even though I have NO idea who some (most?) of the LOTR characters are, I thought it would be fun to do anyways.

Now, can someone tell me more about this guy?

The site also adds this caveat:

F_X

I got Legolas. I always get Legolas on these quizzes.

If, that is, I don’t get Elrond.

I got Galadriel this time. I dont remember what I got in the other lofr quizzes.

I got Celeborn, Elf, King of Lothlorien.
Suits me just fine.

Well, on the first try, it said I was Eowyn, but since that would involve a complete gender overhaul, I went back and modified one answer. Now I get to be Legolas.

(would get to be Aragorn, if only I had the beard. )

Well, the OP asked about Denethor, so I’ll provide some information. Me, being a Lord of the Rings fanatic, could probably tell you far more than you ever wanted to know about him, but I’ll stick to the basics.

Denethor is the Steward of Gondor. What this means is that he has the powers of a king without the title. He holds the stewardship in trust for the return of the true king of Gondor, which will turn out to be Aragorn, son of Arathorn (also known as Elessar). His wife, Finduilas, is dead. He has two sons, Boromir being the elder by five years, and Faramir being the younger.

The next things I’ll say about him could be regarded as spoilers for one who hasn’t read the books (or seen the movies, for that matter). If you don’t want to know what happens to him in Return of the King, don’t read this next part.

Denethor was a wise man, and correctly foresaw that the assault by Sauron would happen during his Stewardship of Gondor. He was proud as well and he trusted in his own strength, and chose to look into the palantir, or seeing stone, of the White Tower. Unfortunately, Sauron also had a seeing stone, and was able to control what Denethor saw. Denethor was too powerful of will to be decieved in what he could see through the stone, but Sauron could control what he saw. Therefore, Denethor only saw things that foretold ruin, and became depressed.

When the armies of Mordor were on the march and Faramir was wounded to near-death, he retreated into the tombs of the city with his loyal servants and prepared to commit suicide in fire, killing his son along with him. It was only due to the betrayal of a guard that Gandalf arrived in time to save Faramir, though Denethor still set himself ablaze and perished.

If you want to know anything more about him, just let me know. I could write pages on the line of Stewards and kings of Gondor. I sort of feel like this post is rather rough in terms of content and phrasing, but it’s 3 in the morning where I am <grin>. My editing isn’t of the highest quality at this time.

Thanks for the info, Psi Cop. As it happens, I have only read the Hobbit (whether I remember any of it is something else entirely), a very little bit of the Fellowship of the Ring, and nothing of the Two Towers or the Return of the King. (save what I got from flipping through the books that I got for my birthday, which wouldn’t be much)

I got Spoz to try this quiz, and this is what he had to say:

F_X

I am Faramir.

In real life, I imagine I would be Barliman Butterbur, or someone equally inoffensive, and unimportant. Faramir is good. Come to think of it I get Eowyn at the end of the story. She kicks ass! I do so love a woman in leather!

Merry Brandybuck

If I were a character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Merry, Hobbit, heir of the Brandybucks and a friend of Frodo’s.

Yeah! I got Aragorn!

Gimli, son of Gloin

Wormtongue.

How exciting.

I am Eowyn. I find this quite acceptible.

::goes off to sharpen swords::

Well, I’m Frodo. I’d been hoping for Bill the Pony. Either that, or Clotty Peristalt.

At least I’m a cute boy, although I’m a delightfully stupid one according to my read on the book/movie.

Another gender-bending choice. Meriadoc the Magnificent here.

OOHH… Very cool this! I like my answer:

I’m Boromir.

Being dead is kind of a downer, but at least I had a good death scene.

I’m either Saruman or Gandalf the Grey, depending on how I deal with the One Ring.

I get to be Theoden, King of Rohan. I die at about the same time as Denethor, but with a much more heroic death scene.
