Which Monopoly Piece Do You Want Added and Booted?

Agreed. For what it’s worth, here’s how the scoreboard looks as of now:

ELIMINATE

Iron 8.33 (I counted split votes as fractions, thus each token in a three-way tie gets a third of a vote)
Wheelbarrow 7
Thimble 5.33
Battleship 2 (including me, since our family’s set had the horse/rider combo, which we called the Tall Texan, instead)
Shoe 1.33
Car, Hat. Dog 0 each

ADD

Robot 13.75
Cat 5.25
Helicopter 3.25 (including me – replace one mode of transport with another)
Guitar 1.25
Ring 0.50

The handle broke off our iron so it became the surfboard.

Ditch the surfboard, go the robot.

Lose the iron. I use a thimble IRL (and I’m under 60!), and some people even collect thimbles. I’m not terribly fond of the wheelbarrow, either.

Add the cat. My second choice might be robot. I’d vote for guitar but it looks like it’s unstable.

The Iron is stupid but so is the Thimble, but I’d have to see what the new pieces look like to decide. Wheelbarrows are inherently stupid, but it looks and feels like a cool piece. Whatever replaces the one voted out have to be awesome

Linked in post #23.

Definitely the cat. Replace the dog. Cats are cool. So are fezzes. Can we replace the thimble with a fez?

I suppose I could boot the battleship as well–it wasn’t one of the pieces when I was a kid.

Alright, fuck the Iron, give me my Robot!!

The problem arises, however, that when you go to vote in the actual competition, you have to vote for a piece to add and a piece to keep. I so wanted to vote to boot the thimble (rolling off the board piece of crap) but was relegated to vote instead to keep the battleship.

Don’t understand the hate for the thimble. Every game I’ve played, someone always picks that piece. No one I know ever even thinks about what they are supposed to represent.

The wheelbarrow needs to go because it’s hard to use, and I think the cat is the most timeless. I don’t want to add a piece that people would want just because it’s fancy.

Shakes fist

Lose the iron and thimble. Who sews or irons any more? Plus, if anyone actually does still sew, they probably have their own damn thimble they can use.

Gotta add the robot. It’s just like I imagined it would look. I was also thinking guitar, but was imagining an electric guitar.

If we are going to “boot” a monopoly piece, we need to “boot” the shoe.

And if we are going to boot, then we also need to RE-BOOT which looks and sounds too much like ROBOT to be ignored.

The thimble was always “my” piece when playing Monopoly, although sometimes I had to give it over to a guest. The piece I would boot would have to be the wheelborrow. Thing’s a PITA to keep upright during play.

My vote for the new piece would be the guitar.

Ditch thimble, add 'copter.

I’d prefer to add ALL the new pieces. They’re all symbols of classic “modern” ways to acquire wealth:

diamond ring – marrying into money, gold-digging
guitar – making it as a rock star
toy robot – technology company IPO
cat – (should be fat)
helicopter – busy CEO

I’d then clear out the old pieces which do not strongly represent “modern” wealth:

shoe – shoeshine boy to tycoon is pretty Horatio Alger
wheelbarrow – manual labor?
clothes iron – ethnic laundry / dry cleaner business is kinda old-fashioned
thimble – almost a symbol of thrift

I’d keep these, even if they’re not especially “modern”:

top hat – too classic, also has a capitalist flair
battleship – Great White Fleet protecting our interests in banana republics
race car – classic rich man’s toy
dog – purse dog for rich ladies

The horse and rider should be changed to make the rider look like a jockey, as thoroughbred racing is another passion of the idle rich

Boot the ship, add a laptop.

I don’t want them dropping anything, but I guess gun to the head I’d say battleship, mainly because I don’t even remember there being a battleship token.

Add, cat I guess, I like cats.

I agree with JohnT - dump the iron, add the cat.

After seeing the pictures of the new tokens, only one makes my cut. The robot.

I will vote to cut the battleship. If they want some military hardware, a plane or tank would be better.

And I don’t know if someone already answered this, but what happened to the horse and rider? I could have sworn my version had that token.

The wheelbarrow should stay. It represents the construction trades, so is appropriate for the real estate development theme of the game.

The battleship may represent the New Jersey:

The first indoor flight of a helicopter was in Atlantic City’s Convention Hall (now Boardwalk Hall). So, for the new piece, I’d go with the helicopter as representing Atlantic City’s history as a convention center (a major venue from roughly the '20s through the '60s).
