Which of these highly rated events did you see?

I think I goofed. I now seem to recall working the night of the Roots finale and may have seen it only as a rerun. Dallas, too.

None.

I was born in 1968, so the only one I really would have been aware of would have been MASH. Which I loathed.

The only big event TV show I cared enough about was the finale of “Cheers”. It was a pretty big deal at the time and a bunch of friends and I went out to a packed bar to watch it. It was the first and only time I’d ever seen a bar full of people glued to the TV to watch a non-sports show.

Cheers should have been on this list. I definitely saw that. It was, as you say, a big deal.

Another one that deserves mention is the finale of Seinfeld.

In case people wondered why I picked the shows I did, it’s because they’re the successive record holders for largest audience on a single channel program in the U.S. The reason for the list being so American centric is because I simply don’t know what the most viewed shows in other countries were. (I do know the most viewed program in Canadian history was the 2010 hockey Gold Medal game.) Any non-American dopers know of lists of the most viewed shows in their country’s history?
