Which of these summer movies are you interested in seeing (or have already seen)?
I’ve already seen Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness and Epic.
I’m also interested in seeing Man of Steel, Monsters University, Planes and The World’s End. Anything else will depend on how it does on Rotten Tomatoes.
I wonder if Man of Steel will be the big money draw of the summer, or whether that honor might go to Star Trek or possibly Monsters University.
Madame Pepperwinkle and I are big summer movie fans. Unfortunately, due to her surgery, we’ll have to catch them on DVD/cable/Netflix. We’ll stock up on microwave popcorn.
I picked a few that I might not make it to in the the theater, and left off a few I’ll probably see on DVD. I’ve seen The Hangover Part III already, and you forgot Now You See Me.
We alternate movie choices. For every Iron Man 3 I get, she gets a Hangover 3. Og knows what I’ll have to see to balance The Wolverine, World War Z, and Pacific Rim. We both want to see This Is The End.
Not a single one.
I’m surprised there were three on the list I was interested in. I don’t go to many movies. Star Trek, Hangover, and Man of Steel have all appeared on my radar.
I’ve already seen Iron Man 3 and Star Trek: Into Darkness.
Epic and Man of Steel tentatively have me, but I’m going to wait to see how the early reviews go.
Pacific Rim, if anyone else were directing I would just dismiss it as a brainless explosion-flic, but I trust del Toro enough to give him a chance on it.
I want to see Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel because I am a comic geek. I am hoping World War Z is as good as the book, but I am not sanguine. I am sick of Star Trek, so maybe when Into Darkness shows up on Netflix, but maybe not.
Prof. Pepperwinkle, my best to your wife for a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Shodan
Refuse to see Iron Man 3. At least until DVD.
Saw ST. Loved it. I’ll be going again.
I checked most of them, especially any serious attempt at epic Scifi, like Elysium and World War Z. Elysium is right in my sweet spot, and so was District 9. I can’t wait to see what Blomkamp’s 2nd effort here is. Pacific Rim is intriguing, but mostly because of Guillermo del Toro; however his American blockbusters are limp compared to his brilliant Spanish films. I hope to see him use that visionary filmmaking in this one.
Equally, I love sharp comedy-scifi flicks, like This Is The End, and The Worlds End by the Shaun of The Dead gang? A no-brainer.
After Erf… I mean Earth, love the idea, but fear it’ll be pretty one note. Also, it’s M. Knight, and I notice he’s not mentioned in ANY of the marketing and promotions. You’d only know if you read the credits.
All on all, I think I’m becoming bored by the glut of comicbook films. More intriguing epic scifi please!
Most of the movies I’m most excited about aren’t on that list, but I’ll probably end up seeing a good chunk of the ones that are.
Already saw:
Iron Man 3 (May 3rd)
Star Trek Into Darkness (May 16th)
Extremely high priority (will see in the first week, probably):
Pacific Rim (July 12th)
The World’s End (August 23rd)
Elysium (August 9th)
World War Z (June 21st)
Monsters University (June 21st)
R.I.P.D. (July 12th)
Average priority (will probably see within the first couple of weeks):
Epic (May 24th)
Paranoia (August 16th)
Man of Steel (June 14th)
This Is the End (June 14th)
Despicable Me 2 (July 3rd)
Low priority (will probably see, but in no hurry):
The Lone Ranger (July 3rd) (love Depp, love Hammer, but this looks awful)
Planes (August 9th) (could be cute or insufferable, we’ll see)
After Earth (May 31st) (Oh fuck it, I like MNS, and the special effects might be good. It should be worth a matinee or discount showing.)
These are the ones I didn’t choose:
The Hangover Part III (May 23rd)
Fast and Furious 6 (May 24th)
The Internship (June 7th)
White House Down (June 28th)
The Wolverine (July 26th) (I might see this discount if it gets great reviews, but I really hate that character.)
The latest Man of Steel trailer makes it sound like a movie I wouldn’t hate, but I’m going to wait for confirmation that Snyder doesn’t pull another Sucker Punch and make it all about the crappy “have you considered letting the innocent children die next time?” origin story.
The Wolverine may or may not be on my list, depending on how well they sell the initial premise from the trailer.
And Elysium looks cool, but I hope they recognise that either the targets have to actually do something wrong, or the protagonist is the bad guy.
I enjoyed Red so it ahould be fun to see the sequel. Malkovich and Mirren? Caint hardly go wrong there!
Oblivion (the post-apocalyptic Tom Cruise movie) is also on my list. It’s not getting a great rating at Rotten Tomatoes (55% critics, 66% audience), but I’ll watch anything post-apocalyptic.
Yes. I admit that when I saw the trailer my first thought was, ugh, Damon and them are bringing filth and violence to a very clean, calm and peaceful place. I’m a bleeding heart liberal, but just because the 1% live on Elysium doesn’t give the anarchists of the 99% the right to trash it up. They really better have a damn good reason. It’ll be interesting to see what it’s really about. I’m trying to stay away from any more trailers or teasers or reviews or anything else.
Add The Croods and Now You See Me.
I saw IM3 but didn’t think it was worth the trip, so I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to vote for it or not.
I’ve only seen trailers for World War Z, Man of Steel, The Lone Ranger, and Pacific Rim. Out of those I’m a little interested in WWZ and PR. Mostly Pacific Rim. I like del Toro, I like monster movies, and the trailer was ridiculous.

Uh… you wanna see the reboot again?
Already saw Star Trek Into Darkness, Olympus Has Fallen and Iron Man 3 and, despite some quibbles, enjoyed each to varying degrees.
I’ll see Man of Steel unless the reviews are just gawdawful. Likewise World War Z, The Wolverine, Kick-Ass 2, White House Down and The Lone Ranger.
My youngest sons wanna see Epic and Monsters University, and I’ll be glad to take them.
I should be all over After Earth and Oblivion, given my sf tastes, but the trailers just didn’t hook me. Elysium looks better.
I still might see The Great Gatsby. My son’s high school lit class saw it recently, though, and he was underwhelmed, as I was by the novel in the first place.
