Which of these would you say is the best dessert of the four?

One of each and a fork for everyone in the thread!

My Mom makes the best. Blackberry’s even better.

Yeah, most of the time, I find cake quite sucky. This is not to say there aren’t good cakes, but the vast majority, in my experience, are not. However, if tres leches cakes were in the poll, that would probably be my #1.

This exactly. It’s the society we live in, spoiled people who think any kind of pie or cake should be available at any time. No planning, no consideration of circumstances or protocol. People now would eat a piece of pie or cake that came from a vending machine or pre-package in a little plastic triangular container. Pie and cake are gifts from the powers that be, there’s are ancient myths of how the gods descended from the heavens to bestow upon us these heavenly delights, to be prepared and eaten in rituals based on the seasons and location of astral bodies. There is no best pie or cake for some unspecified time and occasion, we must consider the history, the philosophy, the economic, cultural, scientific impact of the time and place and tastes of the diners. We are devolving into a barbarous society.

Fuckin’ A!

There was old southern lady at church who used to make absolutely transcendent peach cobbler. It was a religious experience. Sadly, she passed away several years ago, and I haven’t had anything close to it since. It’s tricky to balance the amount of peaches vs. biscuit, the texture of the peaches, and the overall sweetness. It’s rarely perfect.

Apple pie and chocolate cake are similar, in that the truly remarkable ones are rare treasures.

So if I were ordering off a menu with those four options, I would get the cheesecake. It has a much higher success rate.

Apple pie, a delicious desert and a great place to put your wiener.
Or so I saw in a movie once.

And I thought I was just having a tasty morsel…

Ah well, back to beating the tapir femur on the ground…

You people are all sugar addicts and probably need to go to rehab. Why not a healthy dessert? So I’m gonna say Go Banana!

But if I had to choose it’d be Choco Cakey.

If all 4 are on an equal footing, i.e. prepared properly with the best ingredients, I feel the peach cobbler is the best dessert. If not, it comes in last. Chocolate cake and cheesecake know no season, and good apples are always available. Ripe, succulent, aromatic peaches are a much more ephemeral commodity, and they conjure up thoughts of a heavenly dessert. If you could have tasted my mother-in-law’s version, you’d all agree with me.

Precisely.

By the way . . . I lived in NYC for 25 years, and I never ever heard any cheesecake described as “New York Style.” Not even Junior’s.

I’ve seen it there maybe once. The further you get from the city the more likely ‘New York Style’ will be used. In Westchester you might see it on a packaged cheesecake. Maybe on a menu in Jersey or CT. Up around Boston it’s supposed to mean something, but turns out it usually means ‘lame cheesecake’.

Anyway, of course they don’t use the term much in NYC, just like they don’t call it ‘Chinese Food’ in China.

I Like Ike!

For the same reason Boston restaurants don’t have to specify New England clam chowder.

Chocolate cake is inferior to white cake with vanilla frosting, so we eliminate that one. Cheesecake is something I never grew a fondness for so I eliminate that one. Now I would rather eat peaches than peach cobbler and I’d rather eat apple pie than apples, so I vote for apple pie. Also baseball, hot dogs, and Chevrolet.

Sorry, you took too much time putting too much thought into it, so I stole your pie. Your Chevy is next.

Chocolate cake, with cheescake running a close second.

Peach cobbler is something I offer to the other people at the table. bleh.

Well, here is the first sentence from their “about us” page of their website… "When Harry Rosen opened Junior’s on Election Day in 1950, he knew that in order to be a great restaurant in New York, you have to serve the best New York Cheesecake. "

I guess technically the word “style” isn’t in there but I think the point is the same.

And on their order online page for traditional cheesecakes the first is Original NY plain cheesecake.

Gonna go with the Cobbler. I like cobbler.

I like the others also.

Not that it matters. I can’t eat of them. :frowning:
