I don’t think I’ve ever pitted a doper other than myself.
I have been pitted at least 3 times. Once for being a bit millitant in a thread about never having children, once for posting too many smileys in a thread. I can’t remember the reason f…yes I can… It was for there being something about me and Atheism and it was by… Airman Doors USAF ('Lobsang, What is it with you and Atheism")
In a daring, stupid and moronic moment, I damn nearly pitted myself. One of my first ever threads was in the pit and questioned my post count!
I must have been lovable at the time because everyone was very nice. It was a very narrow escape.
I don’t think I’ve ever been pitted, but I’m not entirely sure.
I read it, and I used to post every now and then, but flaming was never a strong point, so I pretty much lurk in that forum.

At 11,500+ posts, and starting back in January, 2000, I don’t think Chronos would/had ever put himself in a pittable light.
I’m much too boring or stupid to draw a Pitting.
I think it may be both.
I’ve never been Pitted, but I practically had a heart attack when I saw my name in the title of a Pit thread - DanielInTheWolvesDen (long banned now) used the Pit to apologize to me for an argument we’d gotten into the day before.
I skipped a beat when the word Lobbing caught my eye in the title of a pit thread.
Here’s one 99er who’s never been pitted.
This means either a) I’m just so naturally nice and charming enough that no one wants to pit me, or b) I’m just on everyone’s “ignore” lists.

A while ago someone posted a pit thread with “anonymous coward” in the title. I was a little worried until I realized it was another anonymous coward she had a beef with.
Other than that, I’m not surprised I’m off the radar.
You don’t suppose that one of us is going to read through this thread, then pit everyone else except themself, do you? :eek:
About 7 minutes ago I had the idea to post that very question in this thread.
The board started in March 99 and I show up as April 99, and I’ve never known myself to be pitted. This is because I don’t say stupid things to people and try to understand what they’re saying.

I sort of have been pitted and didn’t find out about it until it was closed.
It was all rather confusing. I had come up with a sawed-off shotgun in a poker game. I bought it from the guy who had it and wanted back in the game for $50 and rather than have a guy who had lost money standing there with a sawed-off shot gun, I bought the thing. I asked the question in GQ what should I do with it and would it be possible to get some sort of reward for turning it in so I could get my money back.
Basically nothing came out of GQ. People got paranoid that since sawed-off shotguns are illegal we shouldn’t be talking about them. Someone else said the ATF could easily track my signal and Straight Dope was endangered. Eventually a mod closed the the thread (with a nice note privately to me explaining the situation).
Well someone else went to the pit and pitted the mods about my asking a question and getting the thread closed because of paranoia and stupidity. A major fight broke out and somehow in passing I was practically personified as a trouble-making, greedy arms merchant who wanted to bring down Straightdope. A mod at this point did jump in and said very nice things about me being a nice and loyal poster who posted intelligent and well-thought out things and not being a trouble maker at all.
It just kept getting worse though and eventually it too was closed. So technically I was not “pitted” per se although at least one or two had me bringing down society as an aside to other fights going on between pairs of posters.
The irony about this whole thing is that I never knew a thing about the pit activity until about a week later. I had been on an assignment to shoot (with camera not gun) some big horned sheep in the High Country of Colorado.
I sent a thank you to the person who defended my original thread, the mod who defended me in the pit and to the original mod who explained the closing of the original thread, but I never had a chance to take part in my own (sort of) pitting.
I felt kind of cheated.

Many moons ago I was pitted for the above type of post, which was much harder to code back then. I was not vanilla pitted, since the OP was a moderator. This resulted in one major pile-on, with other moderators joining in on the fun. This all had to do with posts I’d made in MPSIMS and IMHO, which goes to show you can be pitted for posting in those forums.
About a year later, there was a thread in which I gave some advice based on my experience when our daughter died. After posting I went to the Pit and there I saw that I was again being pitted, for never making thoughtful/meaningful posts. The weird thing was that the OP of the Pit thread was none other than the OP of the afore mentioned thread. Although it appeared to have the potential to become another pile-on, it quickly died.
I pitted Polycarp once, but it was such a lame rant that everyone laughed at my pitiful attempt.
