Which posters best take the flack?

There are any posters who take a lot of flack, but which ones do you think best cope with it?

I’ll nominate Hal Briston for putting up with all those sheep jokes with good humour.

More seriously, there’s Bricker. He’s just about unique in his POV on the Board and gets a lot of stick from the Left, but he seems to take most of it with good grace.

kanicbird, hands down.

As much as I can’t stand his worldview, the guy is unflappable.

As far as showing grace by *undeserved *flack, I’d have to second Quartz’s nomination of Bricker. He’s the champeen of this thread. We differ politically, but the more I see Bricker calmly explain the letter of the law to dumb and screamy zitbrains who taunt and bait him in the Pit, the more I marvel at his poise. He’s rational, knowledgeable, and he’s got the patience of Job. Plus he seems like a genuinely cool guy.

If I were to ever get into legal trouble in Dopeland, I would be on the phone to Bricker before the cop finished reading me Miranda, and I would pay whatever he asked for.

Runner-up would be lissener. We don’t get along, but I won’t talk about that here. Still, I’ve never seen him run from a confrontation, he sticks to his guns, and he’s not afraid to show his vulnerability, such as when he asked for advice when his electricity was switched off. He’s funny, knows a whole lot about movies, and he sticks up for himself, which is more than I can say for some basement-dwellers I could name. I don’t like him, but I respect him, and I’ve gotta say it: If I was ever in any trouble other than legal trouble, I would definitely ask for his help. He’s been there, done that, and come through stronger for it.

Bricker and Scylla are quite good in political threads. They’d calm, reasoned, and unintimidated by the entrenched lefty culture around here. I disagree with them, but I really appreciate the attempt to keep us honest in our arguments around here.

The mods as a whole. They’re not perfect, but this is still the best-moderated board on the 'nets, and I really do appreciate that.

Of course, if you live in a place totally removed from reality, nothing much is going to bother you.

Clothahump and I are polar opposites politically…sometimes I wonder if we are on the same planet. The only times we even have a slight agreement is with films or something totally removed from polite society or politics.

I do give him chops, however, that he even remains on this board and continues to spew his (in my subtle humble opinion) right-wing bile. I have often wondered if he is really Dubya in disguise, but he is too smart and can spell big words.

At any rate, I really do appreciate reading what he has to say, in that it is always interesting to read what aliens, oops, the other side has to say about certain topics.

He puts up with a lot of grief, and keeps coming back for more, so I guess I can say the dude is able to put up with a lot of (in my subtle, humble opinion) well deserved flack.

How is that for a back-handed compliment?

I would have to go with Scylla. There are times I have to shake my head. Even on serious subjects his style is to use humor, a bit of hyperbole and a bit of sarcasm. It isn’t that hard to figure out. But inevitably he will get attacked as being a troll and/or a liar by those who choose to read each one of his words literally. He seems to take all of it with good humor.

Q.E.D survives the pack mentality very well.

I think **Liberal **has weathered the SDMB storms the longest of any poster. His username used to be Libertarian, and he caught hell from liberals and conservatives alike. Then he announced his new online identity as Liberal, with the caveat that he meant the old school version of the term, which IIRC is more like a Whig party member that opposed the Democrats during the Andrew Jackson years. He caught hell for that too, since among other things, he snagged the username from anybody who was truly liberal.

kanicbird, lekatt and the raindog were my first picks.

Now for the one I really hate naming, but he gets pitted regularly & swiped at in GD (for good reasons) but he does keep on ticking & isn’t the One Trick Pony that badchad was-

yeah, you guessed it, I’m actually giving credit to Der Trihs.

It seems to me that if you want to be nominated for best flack taker you must participate in your own pittings. I know lekatt does not go into the pit. Not sure about kanicbird but I don’t think so.

Double disqualification if you are willing to participate in pits against others but won’t go into threads when you are the pittee.

I retract my last about kanicbird. I don’t know how active he is in it but I see he has at least shown up in his current pitting.

kanicbird has been Pitted recently, turned up, had plenty to say, all of it polite if little of it popular. I’d say the nomination still stands.

Ha! My retraction beat you by 3 minutes.

Scylla used to be good, but recently he’s gone crazy. He seriously argue that Christianity leaned Republican and that Democrats hated it. I’m pretty sure he also defended Rush Limbaugh, and not half-heartedly, either.

I am not crazy. It’s just that George Soros got my IP address somehow and gave it to this liberal group which is beaming this wave of interference static into my brain. To work around it, I have to think sideways. That’s all.

That’s the kind of static I’m talking about. It’s just twisting things a little bit. so they don’t look too right.

Now you see, I think most people would tend to agree that religion, fundamentalism and such have their emphasis on the right, you know Repbulicans and Conservatives. Hence the term “Social Conservatives” who tend to want to further traditional biblical values.

Now on the left side you got more of your atheists, pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, the people that take down the ten commandments from public places, object to the Boy Scouts, etc etc. Those who are at odds with traditional biblical values tend to be on the left.

So, from this I summarize Republicans as pro-religion and Democrats as anti, this being of course a generalization really based on their relative positions and you call me “crazy.”

So, as I sit here, naked, covered in suntan lotion, sliding back and forth on the plastic cover of my waterbed, I laugh at your foolishness. Ask yourself who the crazy one is, and when your finished do me a favor and hand me that lubed up weasel.

Oh my gosh! I defended Rush Limbaugh? Boy I must really be crazy! Wow.
Seriously, do you have any idea how provincial, limited and inflexible that sentiment makes you? You’re so intolerant and incapable of incorporating alternate viewpoints into your own worldview that you consider them crazy?

The hubris. The hubris.

You would post this after posting the following in a thread that asked whether “Jedi” was a religion ? (I assume that Jedi is referring to a Star Wars religion…?  :dubious:)

and…

Highlighting mine.

Methinks Scylla is doing just fine, all things considered…

But here’s the thing: You just equated “traditional biblical values” (by which you really mean “my side’s current interpretation,” picking and choosing your traditions) with “pro-religion.” The point some of us are making is that there’s a huge spectrum of religion outside your interpretation of “traditional biblical values” that you are anti-. You’re co-opting the term “religion” to apply just to sects with which you agree.

Bah. Bricker’s defenses of everything Bush did because the Constitution did not specifically forbid the act in question became quite wearisome.

I was going to chime in that it’s “flak”, but apparently “flack” is a variant. Thanks for the heads-up!

Oh, and Autolycus is mostly civil about the whole ladle bit.
