47/50. Between a mom who liked to travel when I was a kid, wide-spread relations and Debate Nationals, I’ve been boots-on-the-ground in just about every state.
I’ve got both Delaware and Maryland (and a dozen more, not bad for a non-resident foreigner), wanna add Connecticut and Rhode Island to the list some day on account of “being the four states so small that when one of my grad school teachers gave us a blank map of the US to try naming them all for extra credit he left those out”.
Grad school in Chemistry. Yes, he’s a git. And I did point out all four in my copy of the map, it was the “square ones” out West that got me lost (I get the Four Corners ones right nowadays, but still get fuzzy with some others).
17 states plus DC. Not counting, say, having a connecting flight go to Detroit on the way to Colorado or something. I’ve been to most states on the east coast between FL and NY, plus Colorado, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, and Alaska on the west coast.
I have taken my motorcycle through all the lower 48, some more then once. I need to do more exploring in Idaho as I don’t remember much about the place. At some point I’ll make my way, by motorcycle, to Alaska. I’m still waiting for the bridge to be built to Hawaii.
How do you visit 37% of fifty states?
Thirty of them, not bad. I have included drivethroughs (NH, GA), but not mere airline connections where I never left the terminal (OR and IL).
51, since DC is included in the list.
Previous thread (did not include ‘none’ as an option).
North Dakota seems woefully underrepresented for being part of the contiguous 48.
I’ve hit 20, not including states I’ve passed through on train but never touched the ground. I believe that would have added Indiana, New Jersey, and Delaware to the list.
Also, I guess it’s 22, since I forgot to mark NM and PA. :smack:
States I’ve actually done something in:
Maryland (live there)
DC
Virginia
Pennsylvania
New York
Massachusetts
Vermont
New Hampshire
North Carolina
Texas
Minnesota
Colorado
California
New Mexico
States I’ve ridden through or stopped for gas in:
New Jersey
Delaware
Rhode Island
West Virginia
Ohio
Illinois
Iowa
Wisconsin
Indiana
Connecticut
And I had a connection through Hartsfield Int’l once, so I suppose Georgia could be added since I technically had my feet on the ground there. I haven’t seen too much of the west and south outside of Houston, TX.
22, plus six provinces and one territory.
Ah. I’m a 37’er too then.
There needs to be a “select all” button. I think I’ve developed carpal tunnel syndrome answering this poll.
My dad is a history professor and loves to travel, so I had been to 49 by the age of 13. He preferred to drive, so while we could made it to Alaska via the Al-Can highway, we never made it to Hawaii due to the lack of a bridge. That is, until 2 years ago at the age of 39, when we finally went to Hawaii (I bought my own ticket).
Looks like North Dakota and Alaska are the least popular at the moment, unsurprisingly. I’m surprised Hawaii is so unvisited, too. I know it’s far away and all that, but it’s such a popular tourist area that I thought more people would have been there.
Hawaii is like where everyone I know goes for their honey moon. Very surprised Hawaii’s not in the top 5. I knew NY would be 1.
Mine:
NY (I actually live in NY for a time)
FL (Almost moved there.)
MA (Would LOVE to live here)
DC
RI
NC
I just want to see a few state. Hawaii, Louisianna, and maybe Alaska. Don’t have a burning desire to see all 50.
I didn’t check Idaho because I don’t remember if I ever got out of the car going through it (which would technically not count as “setting foot on solid ground.”)
I also broke the rules and didn’t check Michigan since I’ve only flew through the Detriot airport. I did, however, count New Hampshire although I’ve only spent about 5 minutes there: I walked across the bridge from Vermont just to have been in New Hampshire.
13 for me!
I’m surprised at Hawaii, too, and also Texas, which seems to be a bit low for its size and the number of decently large cities. It’s in the same range as Massachusetts, which is really, really, small. Also, I’m surprised that Illinois is in third place, but that could just be because of O’Hare.
25.5 of them?
6 states plus DC. Two states were airports only (and multiple times each - ORD and DFW are both American Airlines hubs), but that’s still “setting foot” in them.
I look forward to adding to the tally, but my visits to the US seem to keep taking me back to the same places. One day …
