White Elephant 2008 Update Thread

That would be me! You’re welcome! I’m glad you seem to like most of it… I had a hard time figuring out what to send!

I hope you managed to get truly fresh curd cheese (squeek squeek!) for the poutine… it really makes all the difference!

I’m not at home right now, so I can’t list everything in my box, but it was so much fun to open! My husband actually hasn’t seen it yet, because he was away on business, so we’re going to have a re-elephant whenever we have time/remember to!

Oops, missed this. It’s all put together and waiting on an onion.

Could you please ma’am check your PMs, I’m having difficulty tracking your package and really hope something is heading your way. But I can’t tell. Gah!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

My package has finally arrived … and what a box o’ loot from MizTina!

We have …
a patriotic dog leash and collar
stained glass iris suncatcher
plastic tupperware-like thing for holding salad and dressing
2 coffee mugs
mailing labels
an 8mm camcorder tape
notecards with motion-trigger camera photos of wildlife
funky wooden windmill relief carving
2 DVDs
a vinyl and leather repair kit
furniture protectors
soft paws
Tastefully Simple cheese ball mix
gladiolus bulbs
platinum blonde wig
lace scarf
small doily
scarf with Christmas bells embroidered on it
recorder, kazoo, playable spoons, shaker eggs, castanets. and a fish-shaped wood block/slit drum

… and earplugs!

Thank you so much! My boys are going to LOVE the instruments - we have music time fairly frequently around here, so they’re going to enjoy having more things to make noise with. Other than that, my favorite thing is the wig. It’s fabulous in its cheapness.

Hey, those cotton balls are out and about, seeing the world! Who am I to deny them?!

Glad you liked the pachyderm, jayjay! The Halloween candy is indeed from this year’s haul. The junior members of the Whatsit family get paid out in cash for the candy they are not allowed to keep, and everyone is very happy with this arrangement, especially MrWhatsit’s co-workers, who are the usual beneficiaries.

Oh you are so very welcome, I’m just thrilled to know that one finally made it safely!

That wooden windmill thing is actually a cookie mold from the Netherlands. You are supposed to be able to butter it up and press a really stiff spice/ginger cookie mix into, then peel it off and bake it. I’ve never had the time, nerve or recipe to try it. I just hang the others in my kitchen for decoration.

Glad you like the earplugs!

Just when I thought it was safe to go to the mailbox.

I got a nice box of stuff from someone from Grandville MI.
A lot of Japanese childrens books. I have no Japanese children.

An expresso cup shaped like a jack-o-lantern. (maybe it’s a candle holder but it has a tiny handle like an expresso cup.

A fancy plate to hang on a wall.

Some silly putty

A PC game of Curling.

and…

A dvd box set of 10 classic monster movies! Including Giant Gila Monster and EEGAH!
Thanks!

My second replacement elephant arrived! So much good stuff! Thanks, Susie Derkins!

Half of it is already distributed, but I’ll try to go on memory:

A Faberge Egg Christmas ornament book
A Grateful Dead-ish skull and roses table mirror
Several other small things that I don’t remember right now because they and all of the above have been kidnapped by supervenusfreak to adorn his cubicle at work.

Two empty lighters
A wheat penny
A red-light keychain flashlight
A small ceramic/composite box with pine tree and cone decorations
A wheelbarrow garden pin
Lots of vintage 80s comic books: Avengers, F4, Batman, GI Joe, Thundercats, Transformers, Silverhawks
Starcraft and Starcraft:Brood War - I was ecstatic when I saw these. I’ve never played Starcraft, so I was eager to install these, but there was no disc in the Starcraft jewel case. :frowning: However, Blizzard allows you to download games for which you have a CD Key, and the CD Key was on both jewel cases. So I DO have Starcraft installed now. Thanks, Susie!

I see people are still getting elephants this late. I just checked my mail…

Still no elephant. :frowning:

I was about to say I had no idea my boyfriend was mean!! I’m glad you were able to install them. The only other thing I remember him putting in there was a vintage Thermos, so most of the stuff you mentioned was news to me. Glad you liked it!

See, jayjay, next year you & supervenusfreak need to send those cotton balls back out with your 09 white elephant. :stuck_out_tongue:

The thermos was also appropriated by supervenusfreak, now that you reminded me of it.

That’s probably exactly what’ll happen, since we have no real use for the things (being a houseful of guys).

Hi Flander,

Don’t fret - an elephant will be on it’s way to you this afternoon.

eta - Actually, Mr. Wonderland has indicated that he’s got tonnes of cool stuff in the camper and his dad’s ultimate ‘Man Garage’ that we can include - not to worry though - it will be this weekend. (I’m assuming that holds more appeal than my girly makeup type stuff. )

Ok, I missed the edit and I don’t think my message is very clear (or maybe it is and I’m just spacey).

An Elephant will be on it’s way to you this weekend - probably tomorrow. It will contain man things. Unless you would prefer woman things.

Woman things? No thanks, I’ve got Flanderchick putting random candles and foo-foo around the apartment already. Thanks for the update. You are the best, Alice

Ahem.

Flander please watch the skies. A Canadian elephant is flying your way…

HOLY CRAP!! An elephant!!!

Thanks again for organizing this, Alice in Wonderland I had a lot of fun with it.

My pleasure! Actually both Mr. Wonderland and Mr. Wonderland’s mom were in on the action!

The fluffy pink mirror is full of catnip, BTW. You can certainly keep it for yourself, but your kitten may like it more.
