White guilt on the SDMB - PC explosion reigns supreme

Stop prevaricating.

A key aim of your initial post was to claim that the OP was not being at all disingenuous. You then, in your next post, said that the (not “a”) point of your previous post had been something quite different.

Also, it’s interesting that self-righteous morons like yourself are happy to point out to others that they are, or might be, breaking board rules, but conveniently forget that junior modding itself is also frowned upon. But from a fucking tool like you, i really expect nothing else but self-righteous idiocy; i’m sure it’s what keeps you getting up in the morning.

Exactly! So why do people constantly assume that posters are white all the time? Why must the default be white (or male, for that matter) when so many of us are not? Whiteness does not equal “no race”.

I don’t mind if people see me as simply monstro, not black woman. In fact, I’d prefer this. But by the same token, I’d love it if people would not assume that I’m something I’m not. That’s what the OP did by assuming the majority of posters on that thread were white. It’s not the worse thing in the world, but it is annoying.

I don’t think a poster’s race has anything to do with proving or validating their points. However, it helps to know where people are coming from, just like other pieces of information that aren’t always necessary (like gender, nationality, place of residence, and occupation).

Liberal: You would be surprised to learn that a person can actually make two points in one post.

Well, Lib, if you’re deliberately trying to be ambiguous, you should expect to be misunderstood. Your second post in this thread definitely appeared to claim that Freejooky was not trying to get a rise out of people, which mhendo and I both disagreed with.

Then you said that you were actually making a different point. Then you said that you were making two points simultaneously. I don’t understand how you can be so snarky to posters who misinterpret what you say, when you’re making it so difficult for them to interpret you correctly in the first place.

And at the very least, when it becomes evident that people interpreted you incorrectly, would it really kill you to toss in a “Sorry if I wasn’t clear” or something like that? You post statements that are unnecessarily cryptic and ambiguous, and then snap at other people for misunderstanding them.

Interpretation is subjective, my dear. I may be responsible for what I imply, but not for what you infer. As I have said — what, twice already? — I do not believe that changing the subject constitutes trolling, and I believe that accusing people of trolling is against the rules. Both. Simultaneously.

Almost. He is mocking the battle scene in 8 Mile, but he’s mocking the lyrics “There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti
He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready” Dave thought rhyming spaghetti in a rap is pretty ridiculous, so he just repeated spaghetti over and over.

As the OP of the thread in question, a few points.

  1. I’m male. Just do you know, and get that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

  2. Although I understand that generalisations are usually wrong, more often than not, they provide some kind of insight. Just as you would be justified in asking if Chinese people generally liked afros. Just sayin. What I got out of that thread: Black people like straight hair too. EOF

  3. I, too, hardly think that any of the answers were excessivly PC. Then again, I would have expected a more generalised answer, along the lines of “Do southern people like grits?” Sure, it’s an individual thing, but there’s generally some sort of observable trend.

HOWEVER, it appears I was wrong about black people homogenity wrt straight hair, as opposed to Asian homogenity wrt straight hair (Yes, there are asians with dreads. No, generally asians do not like dreads). I can live with that. The OP’s mistake appears to be that he expected the black community to be more homogenous than it is, and therefore all the “it’s individual choice” looked to be PC glurge.

Then again, his typing makes him look like a complete fuckwit. shrug oh well, who cares?

“Play the fight music!”

Does the test work in reverse? I respond to drums—does that mean I’m black?

likes drums = must be black
“africanus” in user name = must be black
Location: Rural Michigan = uhhh…wait a minute!
keep us guessing, js!

Holy crap. I just realized that I’m black!

My Momma’s got some ‘splainin’ to do!

When I replied to this thread, I rather stereotypically assumed that anyone asking a question about hairstyles must be a woman. So I guess I’ve got some prejudices of my own to think about!

There’s a photo of me in the picture thread.

Fun fact: My sister is the HR person for a manufacturing firm of about 160 people. She has one employee who has half black-American heritage and her firm is ahead of demographic parity for percentage of blacks in the population.

The town I live in printed up 10,000 “diversity” bumper stickers that by pure coincidence, I’m sure, had an uncanny resemblance to gay-pride rainbow stickers. I always figured that they did it so that they could claim to be diverse without actually having to have any scary racial or ethnic minorities in the community. The conflagration of indignance hit an apex when a bible-thumping cop refused to put one on his squad car and both sides squared up for a rumble.

The situation resolved itself when the unaware moderates realized that they may have been duped and let the project die still-born. Every time I see a sticker I still giggle because the first time I saw one (I was working for the city at the time) I took it into the legal-aid’s office and said “Where did all the gay-pride stickers come from?” and she flipped, and excitedly insisted that I go say that to the city manager’s assistant. She wasn’t amused.

Talk about going off on a tangent. At least it’s in the Pit.

I knew you had multiple personalites.
I knew it because everyone that has two letter 'L’s in their name has multiple personalites.
