We watched North by Northwest (1959) last night. Great film. This morning I checked out its Wiki page and the pages for some of the actors. I discovered that, not only is Eva Marie Saint still alive, but she turns 100 today.
Mason Williams (composer of Classical Gas) is still alive. 85 years old.
Literary scholar Stanley Fish is still alive at 86.
She’s being interiewed on TCM right now. It’s either a rerun, or she looks fantastic.
Probably a rerun; Robert Osborne is looking very much alive.
Yeah, the channel guide says it was taped in April of 2013.
Sorry, yes, 88 years old.
And fabulous.
I was unsure today if Shirley MacLaine was still with us.
Yep, 90 years old and still going.
Her little brother is only 3 years younger.
Michael Stoller (of the Lieber and Stoller songwriting duo) turned 91 in March.
I did not realize George Lazbenby is not only alive, but is only 84.
He is retiring from public appearances and all else. I hope he’s OK.
Based on the guy before him (Zardoz) and the guy after him (Beauregarde Maverick), George has a good 5 or 6 years left in him.
I watched an episode of the Phil Donahue program from 1989 in which he had a panel of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes and Ken Norton on. Looking up Donahue and seeing he is still alive surprised me and ‘only’ 88 years old too because he looked like he was 70 back then.
True. He’s younger than William Shatner and Willie Nelson.
Going gray young certainly doesn’t help.
That’s a heck of a lineup for a talk show!
June Lockhart turned 99 last month, and was, in my 1960s childhood, emblematic of what was best about adult women
Slightly OT but in 1978’s Heaven Can Wait, we learn that Beatty’s character, Joe Pendleton, was scheduled to die on March 20, 2025.
Beatty is 87. There is a chance we could witness the most amazing movie coincidence ever next year…just saying.
I assume many people here remember back in the eighties when Michael Jackson went on tour with his pet chimpanzee Bubbles.
I just learned that Bubbles is still alive and is in an animal sanctuary in Florida, the Center for Great Apes, which has a number of other “retired celebrity” chimps.
That girl is only a couple years younger than him.
