Who are our current "Abe Vigodas"? (people you might be surprised to learn are still alive)

I think the main villain in Octopussy may have been Louis Jourdan, who passed away in 2015.

Oh, yeah, I forgot. I really loved Octopussy and sad that Bond, the main villain, and Bond girl have all died.

The director is still alive, though, and he might count. John Glen is 92 and has not made a movie in almost 25 years.

I just checked, and Maud Adams is still alive.

Wasn’t she also in The Man With the Golden Gun?

She was. There have been a few actors in multiple Bond films playing different characters.

Actresses in the Bond films seem to enjoy long lives. According to Wikpedia, Daniela Bianchi, Luciana Paluzzi, Akiko Wakabayashi, Mie Hama, and Jill St. John are all still alive.

Oops. Don’t tell her I said otherwise.

I’ve never lied to Maud and I’m not going to start now.

Putter Smith is still alive. Besides being a famous jazz bassist who played with Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, and many other jazz greats, he was also the assassin, Mr. Kidd, in Diamonds are Forever (1971).

Jimmy Carter. 100 and still chugging along.

Ended up on Len Deighton’s wikipedia page last night. Shocked he’s still around, @ 95.

Huge difference; we all know about him and are aware of his age and life/death status.

Abe Vigodas are people we aren’t sure if they are alive and likely not sure of their age.

We all know Jimmy Carter is still alive.

But how many people know that his Treasury Secretary, Michael Blumenthal, is also still alive (at 98)?

Well, now, at least all the millions of Dopers who follow this thread.

That’s teeming millions to be precise. Teeming must mean far less than in some language.

Alan Greenspan is alive at 98 as well. I bet a lot of folks wouldn’t be sure.

Meanwhile Carter’s Secretary of Labor, Ray Marshall, is saying “Hey, I’m alive too!”

Carter’s UN ambassador Andrew Young is a young 92.

Linguist and activist Noam Chomsky just turned 96. He suffered a stroke a few years ago and has been out of the public eye, but is definitely still breathing.

Old age was common in his admin. I had the daughter of Leonard Woodcock as a teacher at University of Michigan.

He just missed reaching 90 himself.

She actually shared with us what her dad said about Carter. Essentially, “Great man, the real deal, but was too afraid to let people go do their work…he checked in on minute details all the time. Hated allocating work to others entirely.”
