Who are our current "Abe Vigodas"? (people you might be surprised to learn are still alive)

And that’s how I learned that Carol Burnett and Willie Nelson were born in the same week.

Both born in Texas also.

I was flipping around on my television today and came across a movie called Forget Paris. One of the stars is Billy Crystal, but I just saw him on this year’s Oscars talking about Rob Reiner. It also stars Debra Winger. She’s only 70, but I realized I hadn’t seen her in anything for years, although she was in a lot of movies at one point. The stuff she’s done since Forget Paris isn’t well known. I had no idea if she was alive or dead until I looked her up just now.

And yes, Imelda Marcos is STILL alive.

Ok, that’s a good one, I did not know she was still alive. 96 years old.

I was reading about the movie The Odd Couple (1968) today and I found out that David Sheiner, who played Oscar’s poker buddy Roy, is still alive. He retired from acting in 1988 at the age of 60; he’s now 98.

His wife, Mary-David Sheiner, who he married in 1968, is also alive. She’s 82.

Legendary drag racer Don Garlits is still alive at 94.

And she’s still working - she was a hoot in Palm Royale.

Today is David Attenborough’s 100th birthday!

And he’s been fairly active in his 90s, which is certainly inspirational. His list of achievements is impressive!

(Some of the folks who do live a long time have very limited lives for part of that time, as with just-passed Ted Turner, who disclosed his dementia diagnosis a decade ago.)

I hope he can go out in the field at age 100 and walk and narrate another nature doc. Just one scene of him on the location would be amazing.

Rightly or wrongly, being of sound mind and body (as much as is reasonable for age 100) lends a kind of moral authority—and Sir David can be trusted to use that influence for good.

He’s earned his place in history for his wisdom just as much as for his amazing TV shows.

Very true. If anyone is going to get millions of sincere congratulations and messages of appreciation on a ‘big’ birthday, it’s Attenborough.

Eric Braeden, born in Nazi Germany, known for playing Dr Forbin in the Colossus movie, recently turned 85. He has been in a soap opera for the past 46 years, appearing in over four thousand episodes.

Ironically, “The Young and the Restless”

I read yesterday that Motown founder Berry Gordy is still alive at 96. I also learned that he is the second cousin of Jimmy Carter.

And the father of one half of LMFAO.

Actually that’s where I started. I saw a Redfoo video and I remembered he was the son of somebody famous but I couldn’t remember who. So I looked it up on Wikipedia and down the rabbit hole I went.

Mamie Van Doren is 95. She just published an autobiography called You Thought I Was Dead: My Life of Celebrities, Sex, and Champagne. She’s mostly been out of the public eye since about 1968. She’s done six movies since then, but that was over a period of 58 years, and I think that they were all small roles.
