Sadly, I will be the only person that some of my patients see on the holiday. All I can say is, if you have an elderly and/or ill relative who is homebound, give them a quick call on Christmas. Or better yet, if you are nearby, then stop in for a visit. We’re all going to get old and sick one day, let’s hope we can count on our family and friends for support and love.
Working the 31st, then off for 4 glorious So. Cal. days. Haven’t decided what to do, but going to the coast sounds good. Or just hanging out at some LA museums, maybe.
I support the people that support customer-facing things like ATMs, PayPal, various electronic bill payment systems and parts of the Visa/MasterCard networks.
You better believe we’re open for business! We will be leaving the office at 3:00 on Xmas eve, but I’ll still be on call in case anything breaks.
gah, my dad is “on call” through christmas eve. I guess it’s better than working christmas eve, christmas day, and new years , like last year. As for myself, I don’t work. So i am free to do whatever I want on said days.
It hardly counts but I’m on call from 12/24 thru 12/28. Business is slow though, so really just a walk through the place for some face time and that’ll do it.
I have told them that they cannot reach me from 11:30 am til 3:00 pm on Christmas day though. I’ll be at the movies with the family watching ROTK. So I’ll get some enjoyment out of the holiday weekend.
I’ve got Christmas day off, but am working the day before and the day after. In fact, my work shift goes until 1:30 a.m., so I’ll technically be working for the first hour and a half or so of Christmas Day. It didn’t really occur to me until after I’d started this job that the newspaper doesn’t shut down for holidays.
Anyway, all my family are in other time zones, and the jillelope (I just made that up) will be out of town with her folks, so I’ll either be out bar-hopping with friends or at home watching movies.
I have been off since the 19th, and have to go back to work for the 29th, 30th, and 31st. Then I’m off until Jan 5.
I saved up 3 days of vacation, and interspersed them with my every-other-Friday off—it worked out pretty well! In between Christmas and New Year’s will be dead at my office anyway…so I’ll probably surf the SDMB most of the time!
I could have had the three working days between Christmas and new year off, but it would have been out of my annual leave allowance, so I have elected to work in my support role at one of the subsidiary companies.
I like working at this time of year - the phone doesn’t ring a lot and I can actually get some work done.
I am working Christmas Eve night 6pm to 6:30am Christmas day. Then I’m back at 6pm on Christmas night to start another 12 hours. However I will make sure that if you are supposed to have a dial tone you will have a dial tone (so you on dialup can connect to SDMB) the times I’m working. I also am working New Years Eve. I only get 20% extra for 8 hours, no matter that my shift is 12 hours. Blah!
But, I saw the World’s Cutest Toddlers [sup]TM[/sup] last weekend and gave them their Christmas gifts so all is not sad in the ReepicheepWorld.
I’m Jewish and I work in a hospital. So…I work every single Xmas with my Hindu and Buddhist pals.
Side note–the Hindu fellow used to make big bucks moonlighting for his Jewish friends when he worked in NYC. Everyone at his regular job wondered why he needed the Jewish High Holy Days off…well, of course, for triple pay elsewhere!
Merry Everything and Happy New Year to all! And, since I have a new car, I sure hope I don’t get a bullet hole in the hood this New Year’s Eve, like I did a couple of years ago!!
