It’s not just those hints, there is plenty more. The only other times the “bed of blood” is mentioned in the books is when someone is talking about having a child, but Lyannas mention is the first one so you don’t make the connection until you reread it several times. One of the dreams Dany had in that weird drug induced trip through a warlock house was of a blue rose growing in a wall of ice. And like Zsofia mentioned Rhaegar put all the legendary badasses he had fighting on his side out of the picture in the middle of a war just to guard Lyanna. He didn’t kidnap her, Rhaegar has always been painted as a decent and honorable man, they fell in love ran off together and had a child.
Don’t feel bad, I didn’t figure it out either. Nor did I realize that Renly and Loras were lovers. I got a lot of suprises, reading discussion threads.
You keep missing a prophesy…“The Dragon has 3 heads” and when the Targaryens first came to Westeros, It was with 3 dragons and a King and His 2 sister/wives as queens.
There are 3 dragons again, and they are the key to beating back the OTHERS (dragon fire, dragonglass) but each dragon will need a rider. Daeny will ride one, Her Nephew, Jon Snow (Rheagar’s son), and Bran, the last King of the north. Why do I say Bran??? He knows someday he is gonna fly
Ah yes. And Rhaego will be the stallion who mounts the world. We’ve little reason to believe that any prophesy in A Song of Ice and Fire is any more likely to be true than a prophesy in the real world. With the level of magic in the world it’s reasonable to think some prophesy may be magically preordained but even then we’ve no way of knowing which. And the magic in the series has been shown to be fallible and messy so the magical prophesy is likely to be as well. And I rather suspect that at least some of the prophesy we’ve seen is just mundane made up nonsense and/or educated guesses.
Even though the Targaryens have a reputation for incest, how many brother-sister marriages did the dynasty really have? As far as I can tell, the following kings married their sisters:
Aerys II
Aeris I
Aegon IV
Baelor (not consummated)
Jaehaerys I
Aenys I
Aegon I
Cersei also has morning sickness a couple times in the most recent book. She is pregnant and due for a serious comeuppance.
Yes, I think Jon and Dany will rule as king and queen. Maybe they can’t have a child together, but they will find a way to have an heir, and with enough military might + dragons, who is going to argue? By the then, the North will have been ravaged by war with the Others, Tommen no longer has any power, and Stannis will have been consumed by flame.
You believe that the dates on wiki for Jon’s birth and/or Lyanna’s death are wrong, then? According to those, Jon was born the year before she died, which wouldn’t explain the blood of bed thing.
I wonder why so few have theorized that Jon is really Aegon Targaryen. The ages would match up.
The gory story of Aegon’s death seems pretty well accepted by the characters. It gets repeated probably more then any other of the incidents from the civil war backstory".
Plus, if he did survive, how would he end up with the Starks? The Tangarean strategy seems to have been sending family members across the sea for protection. You’d think they would’ve sent him off to hang with Danerys and her brother.
Not sure where the wiki gets those birthdates from. But even if they’re right, it doesn’t necessarily invalidate the theory, since Lyanna could’ve malingered for a while before dying.
I was just reading the entry for Jon over at that ASOIAF wiki and it’s kind of hilarious, he comes off as such a Mary Sue. He’s accompanied everywhere by his faithful albino direwolf! Come on, if I saw that in a fanfic, I’d hit the back button in a second.
And yet I kind of love Jon. He’s one of my favorite characters.
Also: where is Arya? I actually hope maybe she can be the one to kill Cersei.
Hee - yes, please. Let it happen between books so we can move on with our lives, okay? I don’t dislike the character, but she’s so “stuck” - she goes all that way and lets us see new places and people but she’s, just, ugh.
I kind of love you for this. Every single place I go to read about ASOIAF, she is loathed with a disproportionate ire that is frankly a little frightening. I found her irritating at first, but of course I did, because that was GRRM’s intention – who ever likes the prissy, girly sister when you’ve got the tomboy to root for? Then he turned that on its head, and Sansa’s the only one I care about now. Well, make that Sansa, Littlefinger, Brienne, Jaime, and the Hound – everyone else can sink in the sea – and I have no hope of reading about them ever again.
