Who will win the Game of Thrones [NO SPOILERS - See Sticky]

Ok. I’ve read the books, I’m watching the shows. Here’s the deal. Post the House or Person whom you believe will ultimately win and keep the throne.

No spoilers are allowed.

Example- let us assume that Nigel Throckbottom is a distant member of House Stark. He dies on the second page of the book, and gets an off-screen death and a cry of ‘Nigel!’ in the TV show in Episode 5.

Someone posts on the thread that they think Nigel will win the whole thing, because he’s dashing, and on the periphery of a major house, blah blah blah. Before Nigel is karked on the TV show, you cannot spoil his lack of winning the throne. Up until his TV death, he is assumed to be a player, or else don’t talk about it.

You are welcome to use your knowledge of the books, your knowledge from interviews, your statistical analysis of your fantasy-football-like-Game-of-Thrones-game, your personal job as the author’s copy-editor and WordStar software updater in order to determine your choice of ultimate GoT winner. You just can’t spoil anybody else’s guess.

Now - Begin.

I’m picking:

Jon Snow

No one wins. The last chapter of the last book will be from the perspective of alien archeologists piecing together the story from the fascinating ruins of a frozen, dead world.

Shireen Baratheon.

Sansa Stark.

Well, Peter Baelish will get there first, but Sansa will kill him. It will be the only murder she will ever commit, and it will automatically allow her to win the game with zero contest.

I’d like to see Daenerys win, but I am picking The Others.

House Targaryen.

In the end, Westeros will be ruled by the triumverate of Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Targaryen (nea Snow), and Tyrion Lannister. Sam will be hand of the King.

They will all do exactly as Rhaegar (aka Lord Varys) tells them to do.

The Nights King.

As an aside, now that the show has begun to spoil the books, can we kill this whole stupid “show only” thread rules?

I don’t think anyone will be on the Iron Throne at the end: I’m thinking that whatever remains of the Seven Kingdoms will be ruling themselves, as Robb Stark seemed to be advocating in the North. The Iron Throne is going to get melted down by a dragon or something like that.

Arya and Gendry. Arya as last living non-bastard noble of any family, and Gendry as her husband.

Bran Hodor will run Bartertown.

Right up until someone requests a trial by thunderdome.

Hodor. Hodor! Hodor?

Sansa.

That’s not happening. I vote Stannis.

Well, since the historic War of the Roses ended with a Lancaster scion winning, and he then married a York lady to found the Tudor dynasty, I’ve voting for Tyrion, with Sansa as his Queen. Yes, for once, the ‘Nice Guy’ wins.

meanwhile Lord Jorah Friendzone, in Essos, realizes he’ll never have Dany, and goes on a driveby crossbow murder spree in towntown Meereen…

(too soon?)

Aragorn.

I vote Jon Snow.

As an aside, the show seems to go out of its way to portray Daenerys in a sympathetic light, but there is something about her that I simply don’t like. The more the show attempts to (super) humanize her, the more I don’t like her. For me, her segments are more of a distraction from the plot than anything else; just a way to remind us that “hey guys, Daenerys is still out here.” If she never makes it to Kings Landing I won’t care.

I like Dany a lot, and will continue to do so as long as there’s more of the same character growth we’ve seen so far.

And there’s no way she’s not making it to Westeros, there’s too much buildup for there to be no pay-off.

Of course Dany is getting to westeros, the whole “game of thrones” part of the show is the actual distraction because when the ice zombie armies march down over the seven kingdoms it really won’t matter one bit who is sitting on the throne.
