Who will win the Game of Thrones [NO SPOILERS - See Sticky]

George R.R. Martin

Jon Snow, who will…be revealed to be part Targareyon and also part Baratheon?

I assume this is impossible, but I have no idea. I just figure his parentage is important.

I think the adult members of the Targaryen and Barratheon houses were all men around the time Jon was born. No?

Targaryens showed us that having nobility and a great name shows your right to rule. Baratheons showed us that means fuck all if the other guys have an army (and even Targs were originally foreign invaders). So it doesn’t really make any parentage that important. The only time it matters is that it’s implied, if not outright stated, that Targaryen blood is required to control dragons.

The game of thrones is a strange game. The only winning move is not to play ;).

I agree with DigitalC on both points.

Daeneris comes to Westeros to assume the throne, but discovers it is under attack from the north. Her dragons are out of control, but hey look, Bran is a super-warg and can warg into a dragon. With his help the walkers don’t stand a chance. This forces Daeneris to ally with him, and in turn he forces her to ally with Jon Snow.

Jon Snow is leading the battle against the North, and he hooks up with Daeneris. We discover that he is a Targarian, and he and Danaeris marry and rule, with Tyrion as hand of the king (queen). Sansa and Arya join back up with the family, rebuild Winterfell, and rule the north. Lady Brienne becomes the head of their kingsgard, while Jaime Lannister rules the south as an ally. They all live happily ever after.

Oh, wait… That’s the Disney version. In GRR Martin’s version, the series goes on for 10 years with nothing much happening, then there’s a giant double-cross and all the main characters are killed. The dragons turn on Daeneris and kill her just as she’s leaving for Westeros, making her entire story comletely irrelevant. The last scene is a white walker standing on top of the wall looking over the south and all the nasty people in it. He says, “oh, screw this”. And turns around and goes back home, making that whole plot line irrelevant. Fade to black.

Coincidentally, I just stumbled onto this fan theory online, which looks pretty interesting in light of your pick. I was going with Jon-boy on general Joseph Campbell principles - the orphan who is exiled - but now I’m liking this theory to back it up.

I have a hunch it’ll be Jon and Dany. I hope it’s not because of reasons.

No one. The series will end with Bran reviewing the history of Westeros as a dispassionate observer showing that all the kingdoms fell and the continent has been taken from the Andals by the White Walkers the same as it was taken from the Children of the Forest by them. It was just another chapter in the history of the world.

I see a number of people sitting on the throne, and ending badly. My list :

1)Tommen “Baratheon” (current)
2)Myrcella “Baratheon”
3)Stannis Baratheon

Then, thanks to the inflexibility of Stannis about some issue or another, destruction of King’s Landing by a marching army of others. The throne is abandoned as seen in a couple visions.

  1. Ruler : Petyr Baelish (queen : Margaery Tyrell). Eliminated by Lord Varys.

  2. Lands reunited under the rule of Danaerys Targaryen and Jon Snow (revealed to be a Targaryen too)

How about a game of chess?

My wife is convinced it will come down to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Since it’s a “Song of Fire and Ice,” Daenerys is the Fire and Jon is the Ice. Also, it has yet to be revealed who Jon’s real parents are. As has been mentioned above, it might turn out that Jon is himself a Baratheon or something, and he and Daenerys marry and found a new dynasty.

Or they might just kill each other until nobody is left and Hodor claims the throne.

My money is on Hodor.

I missed that bit. What?!? Whose vision?

Hot Pie.

His sigil will be the blazing cherry pit. The onion knight shall be his hand of the king.

I like having both threads. I enjoy reading about what non-readers think, and then I enjoy going to a spoilers thread to talk with other readers.

I think you’ve missed the point of the Game of Thrones…there is no winner.

How do you win a game that never ends, has no rules, and allows new players to join endlessly?

I agree with both of these sentiments.

I have two nominees right now.

The most likely. Jon Snow is Ned’s nephew who he claimed as his bastard to save him from Robert “Kill All Targaryans” Baratheon. He hooks up with Daenerys which being cousins is practically unmarried for purposes of getting married and having babies. Their child is the undisputed holder of the Iron Throne mostly because everyone else is dead.

Dark Horse? Sansa Stark. Just a gut feeling that everyone who actually makes choices is doomed to die and she never makes any decisions. Plus her husband Tyrion is Tywin’s heir and she will be the last Stark (Bran and Rickon are destined to get offed sometime and God only knows about Anya’s future).
