Who goes to the movies alone?

Although it is nice to have someone to talk to afterwards, I go to see most movies all by my lonesome. I usually have at least one friend who has seen the movie who I can talk to the next day. I don’t like to make snarky comments during the movie, so I don’t miss out on that. Last time I went to a movie with a group of my friends, most of them fell asleep during the screening(it wasn’t the movie’s fault, it was LOTR: The Two Towers. They were just really tired) and I ended up watching the movie by myself anyways.

Me; I sometimes play hooky from work of an afternoon, go to the matinee (cheaper), and it’s neat that nobody knows where I am and they can’t get hold of me.

Well, DUH! That’s what I bring my cell phone for!

I never did before January of 2003, but I have been to a few movies alone this year.

Do you want me to beat you to death with a red vine?

I usually buy lots of candy with real crinkly wrappers and fuss with them for a couple hours during the show

It feels really free to me. No sharing of popcorn or soda. Sit whereever I want. See whatever I want. I don’t do it often but I get a huuuuge kick out of it when I do.

Last movie I saw alone was “Winged Migration” and I saw at least six other people seeing it alone, men and women alike. Out of about 40 people in the theatre.

I have always enjoyed going to movies by myself, usually a Saturday matinee showing! As an introvert, I don’t need to have people around to have a good time! Some of my married friends used to think I was crazy to go to movies alone— now they do it occasionally just to get time away from family!

Actually, depending on where and when you go to a movie, you’re not REALLY alone, even when you go there alone.

I mean, when I was a teenager, I used to go to a lot of Saturday afternoon matinees at the old UA Astoria theater. Now, if I happened to go to an action or horror movie, the theater would be packed with black kids from the local projects, and those guys turned ANY movie into a cross between MST3K and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show!”

When you’re in a theater with a crowd like that, you’re not alone! You’re just hanging out with 250 or 300 friends! When an action movie was good, the kids from the projects made it more fun to watch. And when a movie stunk, they STILL made it fun to watch.

I used to, but nowadays I can’t be bothered going to the movies at all unless I have a really good reason (read: somebody else dragging me there).
