Who in the HELL is a family guy?

OK, this has bugged the Hell outta me since I first saw the show, during the opening credits, they song goes:

“But where are those good old vashioned values, on which we used to rely!!,
{blanky} is a family guy!!! {blanky} is a man who, positivley can do, all the things that make us, F’in cry!”
Who the Hell is a family guy? I can never tell what name they say!

The answer to your question can be found here.

According to this site, the word is wealthy

Eric

I always thought it was, “Lucky there’s a family guy, Lucky there’s a man who, positively can do, all the things that make us, laugh and cry.”

“Wealthy” makes no sense.

I always thought it was “lucky,” too.

Definitely gonna go with lucky as well.

On the DVDs, the captions say “lucky.”

Peter Griffen isn’t much for them good old fashioned values though, is he?

I think that’s where the irony comes in, JThunder. The show has the violence and sex the theme song is against. Hehe. Lucky, eh That makes more sense than wealthy. I always thought they were saying someone’s name.

I’m voting for “lucky” too.

It’s like the song asks a question, “But where are those good ol’ fashioned values on which we used to rely?” Then the response is that we’re all lucky there is a family guy, lucky that there’s a man that can make us both laugh and cry in the midst of all the violence and movies and sex on TV.

A scene which epitomizes this irony is when Peter and Lois are talking about how much values are being lost in newer generations while they are putting on S&M clothes. Lois closes up the conversation with "And remember, the safety word is ‘banana’ "

It took me a while to figure out what safety word meant.

btw… the original cartoon deffinetly said f’in cry…
If you listen to the first shows vs. the later shows… it is an obvious difference…

probably the
“Ok Fox… we give in… we will change it to say Laugh and cry… just don’t take us off the air”
sort of thing…

damn fox bastards…

No, I’ve got all three seasons recorded and they most assuredly say laugh and cry in all of them. No difference between the earlier episodes and later episodes.

Here’s a little experiment. Listen to the song one day looking for “effin cry” and then another day looking for “laugh 'n cry”. You will ALWAYS hear what you are looking for, whichever one it happens to be.

In other words, it will always sound like what you have previously decided it is.

IIRC, the cast or producers had decided to go their separate ways and it wasn’t the decision of FOX.

I have 2 seasons on DVD… there is a difference…

I don’t think that was it… I was on the mailing list…
and they kept throwing out e-mails to write to fox…

and Fox never handled that show well… it was PERFECT right after the simpsons… but they kept moving it around so no one knew when it was on…

You know, in the context of the song, “F—in’ cry” makes about 2% as much sense as “laugh and cry”.

That may be, but I’ll bet they both say “laugh and cry”. Perhaps they changed it because the first version was misheard a lot.

Coincidentally, I know a guy whose name is “Lucky”… so you WERE right all along!!!

Do my previously described experiment, and get back to us.
