Family Guy is out on DVD

[first thread dance] Victory is mine! [/ftd]

This has been everything I remebered and everything I had hoped it would be. Man, I love this freakin’ show.

One question: I know Stewie is supposed to be saying “… all the things that make us laugh and cry.” in the into song, but I swear it sounds like he’s saying “all the things that make us eff’n cry.” My $0.02.

Love, love, love this show.

Finally, the powers that be throw me a bone. I can’t get my mind around the show being cancelled.

I’ve watched discs 1 and 2 so far and the show is just as funny as I remember it. All of you who didn’t watch should be ashamed and feel personally responsible for the show’s cancellation. For shame.

Have a favorite episode, guys?

Actually, I think he’s said both. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I think he said “effin’ cry” for the first two seasons, then apparently somebody found it offensive or something, because it was changed to “laugh and cry” for the third and final season.

Family Guy ruled. I just want to know why a genuinely hilarious show couldn’t get enough ratings to stay alive, while a show composed almost entirely of idiots eating bugs for shock value is a ratings bonanza. People suck.

I, too, think he said “effin’ cry” for the first two seasons and “laugh and cry” for the last ones. I have no proof or anything, it’s just IMHO.

And so many people I knew didn’t understand Family Guy, which is why it tanked, I think.

The subtitles on the DVD say “laugh and cry”. FTR, that’s how I always heard it throughout the broadcast life of the series. But the “eff’n cry” angle has been taken by so many people that I question my own memory.

Actually, I have MPEGs of captured first run Family Guy episodes, so I can prove the whole “effin’”/“laugh and” thing. I simply de-multiplexed the video files and cut out the pertinent lines from the resultant audio files. Then I threw it up on some web space that I got a couple of months ago but haven’t gotten around to developing yet. The whole process only took a few minutes. I think the difference between the two versions is pretty clear, but you can judge for yourself.

Hopefully, no mods will frown on this, as it seems to me that a 3-second snippet of a theme song easily qualifies as fair use.

Man I love this show! The pacing is so fast you miss half the jokes the first time around!

I need some details about the DVD. All episodes included? Bonus episodes? Commentary? Interviews? I need answers!!

He always said “laugh and cry”! “Effin’ cry” doesn’t even make sense! They changed it only to make that clearer, cause people who want to hear profanity everywhere cause it’s “cool” couldn’t understand G rated lyrics. Yes folks, as outrageous as the show itself was, the opening title as clean as it purported to be.

Sounds like “effin” to me in the first clip. Follow the Master’s Shoe! No, the Gourd!

I’m so excited about finally seeing Family Guy again! The day after it came out, I went to 5 different stores to get it and they were all sold out. In fact, at the fifth store, the clerk said “Stop looking, it’s sold out everywhere.” So I ended my search that night, but found it the next day at FYE ( aka Fork over Your Earnings). When I got home, I skipped around and watched some from every tape.

My favorite so far is the one where Peter has to go to sensitivity training and he becomes very “womanly” and tries to breast-feed Stewie. The look on Stewie’s face is priceless!

…every…tape?

Sorry, I’m stuck in the 80’s.

DVD DVD DVD DVD DVD. There, all better!

Two of my favorite Family Guy bits:

The “I don’t take coupons from chickens, not after last time” slays me every time. I started thinking about that scene trying to go to sleep last night and laughed myself silly.

Hitler’s talk show…“Oooh, oooh, he’s goink to do it!”

Family Guy also just started showing on The Cartoon Network this week! It’s right after Futurama! What a great hour of Television that is!

Huh? What’s so nonsensical about it? “All the things that make us f*cking cry.” Makes perfect sense to me and is surely funnier than “laugh and cry.” Also, please point me to these “people who want to hear profanity everywhere because it’s cool.” I’ve never met any outside of an elementary school.

The thing is, he says “effin”, not “fuckin’”.

Oh, c’mon, people! It’s just a lamer, cruder rip-off of The Simpsons, which, consider how lame and crude The Simpsons has become, is saying something!

For the record, it sounds like F’in’ (effin’) cry to me too.

“Effin’” is “fuckin.’” As in “f—in’” I’m not sure where that usage started but I know I heard it quite frequently on Howard Stern 5-6 years ago.

And Gr8Kat, that’s a pretty common complaint that I’ve never quite understood. How does it rip off the Simpsons? Because they’re a family? Because there are a lot of pop culture references? I honestly don’t get it.

I think that it was originally effin’ cry, as well.

I can’t figure out the rest of the lyrics, though. Please fill in the blank for me: “_____ is a family guy . . .”

Glad that it is on the cartoon network now and look forward to getting the DVD.
