I’m beginning to feel that way about Harrison “Was that Airplane Supposed to be Under Me?” Ford.
The last time I saw the Stones, it had been drizzling rain all evening. Just as the Stones took the stage, it stopped. Before taking his place, Keef stepped to the mic, looked up at the heavens, and said “OK, we’ve got a deal, right?” Sure enough, the rain held off until halfway through the Stones’ final encore. The dude’s got connections.
He was one of my picks back in 2000.
I read the books of Beverly Cleary back in the 1950’s in elementary school.
She’s still alive at 100! Way to go, Beverly.
When Sonny dies, jazz is officially over.
I will throw away all my albums and listen solely to accordion polkas.
Valerie Harper (Rhoda on “the Mary Tyler Moore Show”) was in the news a while back that she had inoperable brain tumors and six months to live. That was several years ago; in the meantime she was a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” and even outlived Ms. Moore.
Jazz great Jimmy Heath is 90. I posted about seeing him play last week. Benny Golson is 88 and still touring.
Bridget Bardot is 82.
I was surprised recently to see that Charley Pride is still alive. I didn’t have any particular reason to think that he was dead – he’s 82, so old, but not like miraculously old – other than that so many folks from his era are in fact dead.
Good call!
One of his most recognized roles was as Dr. Daniel Auschlander, from St. Elsewhere, and his character was dying during the entire series!
Norman turned 102 four months ago!
Jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli is still alive at 92. He had a stroke two years ago, but he’s still performing occaisonally.
I just saw a post from IMDB on Facebook, pointing out that character actor James Hong turned 88 earlier this week. I’ll always think of him as the scenery-chewing David Lo Pan (“Now this really pisses me off to no end!”) in Big Trouble in Little China. He’s still working, too, both as an on-screen actor and as a voice artist.
“Indeed!”
I can believe he made such a deal…but why did he look up?
Composer John Williams is alive and well at 85.
85?! I thought he was that old thirty years ago!
I was a little surprised to find that James Earl Jones is still with us. (I’ve been watching the TV show “Everwood” on DVD, and last night I got to the episode where he was a guest star.)
Jake LaMotta is still around at age 95, which really surprised me. I’m pretty sure he retired from boxing sometime before my mom was born.
Chuck Berry is 90.
And how is David Crosby still alive?
And still making records I should’ve added!
The Seventh Seal was 1957. Max von Sydow is still around to be criminally underutilized in Game of Thrones and the Force Awakens. His first film was 1949.
