I can see that; he’s a heavily armed, international extortionist version of a troll. On the other hand Phred’s a lot smaller, but it’s pretty much all he does.

While Phred might be one of America’s most despicable inhabitants, is he really a troll? If he actually believes that his lunatic pronouncements are the actual word of God, then it’s not technically trolling.
My vote goes to Glen Beck. It’s pretty clear that he makes shit up just to rustle feathers and collect dollars.
I agree with Tap. However, it’s a hard pill to swallow to assume Phred actually believes that shit. I think he’s trolling for tithe.
Well, it would depend on how you define troll. I agree with Tapioca, though that Glenn Beck would be contender in that he’s a self-described clown who knows that he’s talking out of his ass. I highly suspect that if he thought he could make as much money pandering to liberals as he does to conservaties, he would show up on his program tomorrow wearing a Che shirt and rambling about the merits of Socialism.

I think Lemur866 gave the best explanation I’ve seen of why Fred Phelps does what he does. In a nutshell, he tries to alienate as many people as possible in order to show his family that nobody out there likes them and that he’s pretty much the only person they can count on, so he can keep on controlling them with an iron hand. That makes him a troll, though maybe slightly different from other trolls.
For political pundits, I’d say Michael Savage beats even Glen Beck. That’s one angry, petty, bitter little troll. I say this as a conservative Limbaugh fan.
