I’d say it’s a tossup between CKDextHavn and tomndebb.
I’m going to have to say DRY, too, because he is always amazing me with some new subject that comes up, and he is knowledgeable in yet another area that I didn’t know he knew anything about.
And when someone starts a thread for “Most Convoluted Doper,” I expect someone to remember the statement I just made, and nominate ME!

Knowledge goes in the ear. Thus, those who hear not, get less knowledge, especially social knowledge. I ought to know having been at times both hearing & deaf. Most of the people here I think would say that knowledge is intelligence.
Cecil doesn’t qualify, not because he is a trademark, or was one, but simply because he has a large staff that gathers information from him.

Hmmm… yeah, I’ll go with Tomndeb. I actually learn some useful things from his/her/their posts.
I consider myself the smartest person in the world. Sure, many people on these boards come close to me, but not quite. I am, however, too opinionated (and too new here) for anyone else to consider me the smartest guy on the boards. I’m basically an evil genius. In fact, I know absolutely everything (including the reason that I shouldn’t prove that I do). Well, not ABOSOLUTELY everything; I could never figure out how to prepare crème brulée properly…

I think there are lots of areas of intelligence. tatertot, your common sense, kindness, and writing style, show me that you are highly intelligent. I think that so many posters at these boards are witty, interesting, and intelligent. Some that I can remember right now are polycarp, lissener, Catrandom, Fretful Porpentine, dropzone, sandyr, Satan, oldscratch, drainbead, SouthernStyle, Scylla, Spiritus Mundi, Tradesilicon, Zenster, Libertarian, Tris, and many more I can’t think of right now.
My s.o.'s son is studying Gardner’s eight intelligences in his personal economics class. The eight intelligences are described as the following: bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, logical-mathematical, musical-rhythic, naturalist, verbal-linguistic, and visual-spatial.
There are probably lots of other models, but enough to include many posters in these forums.
I had high hopes for dorkbro, but posted only 72 times and hasn’t posted in more than a month. I may be biased because his very first post was in one of my threads (still the best first post I’ve ever seen).
Among active posters, my opinion is that the most intelligent are tomndebb and BobT.
I’m sorry to have to be the one to say it, but based only on his recent posts on the SDMB, no one would ever guess Cecil Adams was at all smart. At one time, he did actually display some intelligence in his posts, but those threads date from before I registered in April. The columns are another thing entirely.
I’d like to destroy my eloquent one word answer by equivocating and adding Polycarp and DrFidelius.

Seriously, Spiderwoman made a very good point; we are all very smart in our own ways. If I feel slighly stupid here, it is because I’m used to being a big fish in a small pond…it’s refreshing to be amongst so many smart, good-humored and caring people such as you, dear reader.
But since this is something of a contest, and I love me a contest, I have a few nominees that I’ve forgotten:

I agree with many in this thread and I could never pick just one because different people are intelligent in different ways. However, in addition to some of the fine people already mentioned, I’ll have to add pldennison.
Handy, WTF??? How can you have nigh unto 6500 posts and not have seen one by Tomndebb? I’m baffled.
There’s aplenty of smart folks here, but I’d like to put in a special mention of Gaudere, who beautifully balances her sharp wits with a profound grace. I admire that combination.
Thank you both, but this is one contest I wouldn’t have whined if you hadn’t voted for me, because I know it isn’t true.

I’m probably the LEAST intelligent of the people that have been nominated. Sure, I’m considred above average in real life, but this is a tough group.
The whining part, however, is absolutely true. :eek:
