Who is your favorite 'Friends' character?

Ross was hillarious, when he keeps trying to put his pants on backwards in the middle of an arguement with emily, or when he goes nuts over his turkey sandwich, or when bruce willis gives ross a hard time.

For me, I couldn’t stand Joeys over the top dumbness.

What about supporing characters? My favorite was the guy who worked at the coffee shop (but I can’t remember his name) who had a crush on, I think, Rachel.

“Hey, fella, this is a family place. Put the mouse back in the house.”

Perfect.
Roddy

Ross was Ben Stiller before Ben started making movies that I was too embarrassed for him to watch-- Unagi!

Chandler was my favorite. He invented Chandler speak. Could he BE any more awesome?

Gunther.

Ross had his fair share of hilarious moments - glowing teeth, anyone? - but then they all did. I wouldn’t want to know him in real life, but then I feel the same for all the Seinfeld characters and that’s my favourite show ever, so…

Thank you. I vote for Gunther.

Joey and Chandler - Joey would have a slight edge

I always liked their dynamic. I’m probably more like Chandler (mainly the humour as a defense mechanism thing. I really do have a congenital inability to take things seriously), but Joey would be a lot more fun to hang around. Everyone needs someone in their life who understands [harmless] fun.

I have no patience for any of the women. Ross I can tolerate.

When I first started watching, I was all about Chandler. Loved his sense of humor and thought he was the sexiest. (Joey could keep his “How you doin’!”) By the end I hated them all and hoped Gunther would slaughter them all in Central Perk and feast on their remains, but that’s neither here nor there.

I think the beginning of the end for me was when Chandler and Monica got together. Somehow it made them both so hateful. (I felt similarly about Daphne getting together with Niles, though I still liked him–just not her.)

Phoebe was the most interesting, and had the least annoying (to the audience) traits. I kind of liked early Ross, before he got overly cartoonish.

Pretty funny that the Gellers are tied for last.

Heard a Phoebe line yesterday that I’d not heard before:

(when asked the spelling of her name)

“P as in Phoebe, H as in Heebe, O as in Oeebe…”

For supporting characters, I’d befriend Janice. Yes, she was annoying, but she upfront annoying. The six Friends try to hide their annoyingness.

I also love her sense of humour.

Monica got so shrill by the end. I like that they even had a side character comment on it. Joey’s roommate that he’s dating says she doesn’t like Chandler and Monica which bothers him. Her reasoning is that Monica is really loud and Chandler boring–basically what the characters had become.

Annie, I agree. Years later, I find myself thinking that Janice was pretty awesome. And for her all her big hair and long nails, emotionally she’s way less high maintenance than Monica and Rachel.

Oh, heck yes on Janice. She was a hoot, and I simply loved the character. My daughters looked at me like I was nuts, but I would’ve run away with Janice any day.

Rachel. I didn’t hate the show, but I didn’t particularly like it either, and yet, somehow, my teenage male self kept tuning in every week. Can’t imagine why. So, yeah…Rachel.

It was easy to narrow it down to Phoebe and Chandler. By the end of the show Phoebe was the only one I didn’t dislike, but I went with Chandler because he is right in the middle of all the funniest moments.

This, but with Monica substituted for Rachel. And mind you, that’s Monica when she had some meat on her bones, not when she was a bit on the gaunt side.

But Phoebe had my all-time favorite Friends line, as said to her overenthusiastic boyfriend (Alec Baldwin): “You’re like Santa Claus… in Disneyland… on Prozac… getting laid!”

Am I the sole Joey supporter? I always enjoyed him the most, and he always seemed the most genuine in being a true freind to the others, absent from the petty backstabbery. His soap method acting, the "how you doin’ ", the “could I be wearing any more of Chandler’s clothes” style of friendly antagonizing…his schticks never failed to crack me up.

Phoebe, for all the reasons people have listed above.

Surprised, though, for the huge Chandler support…I think his smarmy humor would drive me a bit crazy! :frowning: I’d take Rachel, Joey, or even Monica over him. (But not Ross…never Ross.)

Ursula. I loved how she brought that character over from Mad About You.

All true. I have to say, his reaction to the sand-boobs his pals built around his chest while he napped on the beach (a sight gag that remained in the openings credits for several years) was Emmy-worthy.
