Who Makes "Real One Player"?

Can a SDoper tell me who is the owner of RealOne Player? - Jinx

RealNetworks. From Help - About RealPlayer

Real One Player is a product of RealNetworks, which was founded in Feb of 1994 as Progressive Networks by Rob Glaser. The name was changed to RealNetworks on Sept 25, 1997. I beleive they trade under the symbol RNWK.

Sorry for the spam…

This is their ‘company information’ page: http://www.realnetworks.com/company/.

I think Real Player is made by Satan, or at least his minions.

Agreed. It takes over file associations in Windows even when you tell it not to.

The new Real One Player sucks, big time. The basic version claims to be freeware, but it’s not – you have to reinstall it every 30 days, like it or not. And worst of all…old Real Audio/Video clims ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with the new version!!

Thankfully, you can find older versions of RealPlayer at this link (Realplayer 8 works best, IMO):

I would implore anyone reading this to read Real Networks privacy agreement VERY CAREFULLY before installing this shite on their PC. I’m fairly certain that you will have no desire to continue with the installation after doing so.

There was a thread several days ago which mentioned an alternative for playing .ram files but I can’t seem to find it.

[sorry for the hijack]

Something is horribly wrong with that statement about “30 days.” I’ve had RP One on my system for many, many months, and have never reinstalled it. I also went through the custom setup, and only let it be associated with RealPlayer files, and have never had a problem. Well, the icons for some kinds of files still are RP pictures, but when you open them, they trigger Zoom Player, which is what I use for everything possible.

Media Player Classic can play Real Media files. Some of the time, anyways. http://www.divx-digest.com/software/media_player_classic.html

Nah. Even Satan has his standards.
