I am intrigued by this guy who is he, what is he? Why the name? what is Yojimboguy? is it an ancient chinese washing powder? Or was it a name of some mongol warlord?
The word “yojimbo” is not Chinese, it’s Japanese.
It means “samurai-bodyguard”. Yojimboguy probably chose it because of the Kurosawa film Yojimbo.
It should also be pointed out that there are two separate posters:
Yojimbo
and
Yojimboguy
And here was me thinking it was taken from a Bond movie (I’m pretty sure that the CIA chappie shouts ‘Yo! Jimbo!’ to Bond in one or more of them.
Yojimboguy: Post something here please!
I saw the thread title, and wondered who I had pissed off, and why. This us a pretty common thought for me, because I tend to offend in complete ignorance.
But I am strangely flattered.
My name is Jim
Some people call me Jimbo
A couple of people call me Yojimbo, based on the lead character* of the Kurosawa(sp?) film of the same name.
When I started online regularly (about 3 years ago):
“Jim@…” was taken
“Jimbo@…” was taken
“Yojimbo@…” was taken
“Yojimboguy@” was NOT taken; ergo, I am yojimboguy.
You may interpret it in two ways:
- Yojimbo Guy! OR
- Yo! Jimbo Guy!
- I was told this is a compliment. But to me the movie Yojimbo character is pretty much an asshole, though to be fair he’s not exactly dealing with polite society.
Go read Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo comics, then – there’s a yojimbo worth looking up to.
can they be read in English? Online?
In English, yes, they’re written in English, I believe. Online? Mm… not to my knowledge.
They’re about a rabbit samurai. Very cool.
Haha! I thought your name was like some sort of weird grouping of
’ Yo! Jimbo! you and your guys comeover here’
The thread is a closure on my intrigue, but don’t take offence
