A memory popped into my head of a stand up comedian I saw a decade or so ago on YouTube or somewhere similar. She was young - like 12 or 13. Her young age was part of her comedic shtick, and her humor was a bit … bawdy, considering her age. Her one bit that I remember was about her age. “It’s really hard dating when you’re my age. All of the men who want to date me are … in prison.”
Does this ring a bell for anyone? I h think her name might have been Sable something.
She would be in her 20s or 30s now so obviously her Bawdy Pubescent Girl shtick wouldn’t work any more.
I remember seeing a TV news feature in the mid-late 90s about another female standup comedian around that age, though IIRC she was closer to 10-11. The only part of her routine I recall was
Being a kid’s not so bad…I get a [something something something] on my library card!
(in retrospect, it was probably something like “zero-percent APR”)
OP is probably thinking of Saffron Herndon.
Yup, definitely Saffron. Thanks!!
Man, that wiki page and her Youtube channel certainly leads to the question Where is she now?
She has a Facebook page that she says she’ll keep posted with news of her performances, but it doesn’t look to have any new material since 2021, and nothing at all posted to it since 2023.
My WAG is that she failed to make it as a stand up comedian - after all, now that she’s an adult her shtick as a bawdy little girl doesn’t land. Small fish in a big pond, and all that. She’s probably working a day job somewhere. If I ever run into her I’ll buy her a beer to thank her for the few laughs she gave me.
