Who’s been vaccinated?

I went with my dad (83) to get him vaccinated yesterday. He got the Moderna vaccine, and still is reporting no side effects. (He kept suggesting I ask them to give me one too, and I had to explain that I’m not eligible yet. Soon I hope!)

Sometimes, though, when there are leftover doses of the vaccine, they’ve been given to people who were not yet eligible (even those accompanying eligible, scheduled recipients), simply because some vaccines will expire otherwise.

This sounds like what my parents got as well. They are both tickled pink to give feedback, even if it’s pretty boring, as they don’t have much to report.

Hahahahahahaha! Oh, we’re big on “lessons learned” after the latest debacle. Unfortunately, even though they learn the lessons, change is seldom enacted. An example is our police department in Portland. Even after many very expensive lawsuits, the city has never requested available grant money to purchase personal cameras for the department. They know that they would cut down on lawsuits and accusations, but choose instead to dither.

Sorry for the hijack. Back to business.

One of our neighbors doesn’t have a computer but is eligible for a shot because of age (85) and health. I’ve been trying to get an appointment for him online. The webpage has been “new and improved” so now I have to enter all of his information before I can check for availability for a certain day at a certain site. There is no way to tell before hand if there is any availability anywhere or any time, and the information doesn’t store.

Its almost as though they thought too many old folks were getting appointments, so they wanted to make the process harder and more complicated to screen them out.

I hope it passes soon!

I had a temperature for about two hours and chills for an hour yesterday. That was roughly 28 hours after the first Moderna dose. Nothing today. I have a feeling the second shot will kick my butt. At least I know to get ahead for a few days.

My local health department’s website does the reverse - you select an appointment, then fill out the registration form. I tried that, but by the time I filled out the form and hit “Submit”, that appointment was already filled! I tried again, selected a different appointment, filled out the form again (because of course the information wasn’t stored), and by the time I did that and hit “Submit”, that appointment was already filled. When I went back to the appointment page for the 3rd time, all of the available appointments had been taken.

I’m reasonably computer literate, comfortable with online forms (and use a browser that autofills a lot of that info for me), and a fast typer, and I still couldn’t get through. I can’t even imagine what it must be like for someone who doesn’t have experience with online forms, or arthritis, or…

I’m stubborn, my neighbor WILL get an appointment. (Chances are fair that I will have to drive him to the appointment because its going to be at least 45 miles away.) I’m just really upset that the site was changed like that. It was much easier and less confusing than when a few weeks ago when I made mom and my appointments.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get much sleep, but at V+24 hours, I do have a slight fever, and am fending off the aches with ibuprofen. The chills are the most annoying side effect. I really hope I just have a bad reaction, perhaps since I’ve never had a flu shot or the flu, and have really never had a sustained fever in my adult life. One good thing is no sore throat, which has been a symptom in 100% of the times I’ve been sick in my life. What”s scary to me is what my kids might have to go through when it’s their turn. If the severity is related to the strength of the immune system, I can’t begin to imagine what children, in general, will feel.

Will report back later. I’m sure my posts are pretty boring to many, but am providing these updates per an earlier request.

ETA: how could I forget? There have been some unpleasant, although not painful, GI symptoms. But those may just be specific to me, as I don’t see that as a common side effect in articles I’ve read.

Not at all. We’re following with interest.

That has been my experience here. I have not been able to get an appointment despite logging into the county’s public health site every time a new batch of appointments is announced. My brother, also eligible under the current guidelines was successful and I tagged along for his first shot last Friday because the radio announced that “some sites” – there’s only one in the county – are allowing +1 per auto to get things done. Not so when we arrived.

The process was efficient, reminding me of how we filter some 50,000 people off of a two-lane highway and into Burning Man in about twelve hours. From when we arrived at the site to driving away was about a half hour including the fifteen minute wait after the vaccination to besure there was no reaction.

That’s the part that has me torqued. Although I have an “account” on the county’s site, in order to check whether I can get an appointment I have to enter the info every time only to “there are no appointments available.”

Is there a number you can call? Maybe just say you don’t have computer access or it isn’t working for you. We’ve got a phone number in our county, it’s not publicized but the DoH office will give it out to people who don’t have computer access.

Sure, there’s a number. I called it a couple weeks ago when I couldn’t set up the useless account – the verification email never arrived. I was on hold for a half-hour then it disconnected.

Woke up this morning, and at V+36 hours, I feel much better. All side effects are probably at about 25% of what they were yesterday. The shoulder pain is more pronounced now, probably because the cough, chills, aches and headache are all much more bearable. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal by late today or early tomorrow.

Yes, here’s hoping!

Well, took a bit of a downturn. Body aches and headache are back, and fever is higher than yesterday. I still feel better than yesterday.

Well, rats. Do the side effects generally last this long?

Just finished round 2 of Moderna.

After first one nothing notable except a sore arm
After 2, First day nothing outside of a sore arm, day 2 was sucky, low level nausea, moderiate aches and pains were the majority of the symptoms, I could watch TV and eat and tried to sleep though as much as I could. Day 3 feel fit and a fiddle.

I think it is definitely a YMMV situation. I was feeling crappy and felt like I would need to sleep it off more, but had a few inches of snow to shovel, so went out in the cold for about 30 minutes. I was sweating profusely, which is odd for a cold day, but finished up. Somehow, I now feel great. Will report back.

They’re not boring at all! Thank you, I hope you’re back to being yourself now.
