I feel much better today, and haven’t needed the Motrin I’ve taken over the past couple of days. But yesterday my condition deteriorated over the course of the day, so hoping this improvement is sustained. Will report back later.
Good grief, J_J, this is distressing. Your immune system must be one kick-ass MF to put up a fight like this. When you’re finally immune, you’ll be invincible.
I sure hope you’re right. And my very low-grade fever and chills are back, although nowhere as severe as 2 days ago.
And just so folks aren’t afraid of having the same reaction as me, my family reminded me of a couple of things: 1) My mom reminded me that whenever I’ve been vaccinated in my life with a vaccine that is expected to cause some side effects, mine always lasted at least twice as long as the doctor warned, and 2) my sister reminded me that I’m basically a wuss when I’m sick, but she is a PA and a few of her patients have reported similar lengthier recoveries after Moderna #2, so nothing to be concerned about.
My mom (76) and my husband (52) both had their second Pfizer shots this week. My mom felt like crap for about two days - all over body aches, chills (but no fever), loss of appetite. She’s doing better now, three days after the shot. My husband had his shot yesterday morning and has had a very sore arm and a headache, but no other reaction.
The inconsistency is astounding. I just found out that my 90 year old uncle hasn’t been able to get an appointment yet. He lives in Connecticut.
got Moderna shot 1 today I work in health care. they said shot 2 might have more side effects.
People over 70 should all have one by now , if they don’t that’s bad.
They haven’t, and it’s bad. At least around here (SE North Carolina). There just isn’t enough vaccine to go around. In my county of residence, about 1/3 of the population, over 30,000 residents, is over 65 (the current priority group under NC guidelines). A few weeks ago, the county commission released an open letter to the state health department complaining that the entire county’s vaccine allotment for that week was 100 doses. 100. For 30,000 residents in the current priority group. Last Wednesday, the county ran a “mass vaccination” clinic with the help of the National Guard and administered 321 vaccines. Which is great, except, again, over 30,000 residents in the county are over 65. And at least some of those 321 vaccines were administered to Group 1 healthcare workers who are supposed to be the highest priority but still hadn’t received the vaccine. I’m in Group 1, but didn’t get a vaccine until last Friday because appointments have been virtually impossible to come by.
The situation is improving. In the county where I work, the health department and the regional hospital are now doing 2-day vaccine clinics twice a week instead of only once a week, and as of this week, Walgreens now has vaccines as well (those appointments were all taken within 24 hours, but that’s better than the 5-10 minutes it usually takes for the hospital and county health department appointments to fill up).
I know a lot of people over 75 who don’t have it yet. Most of my elderly relatives, for example. My mother-in-law is over 80 and she hasn’t been contacted yet to make her appointment. My uncle is over 90, same thing.
I’m sure there are a lot of people over 70 around here who haven’t had it. If they’re not in assisted living (and most aren’t), and are unable or unwilling to travel two hours or much further away (or didn’t succeed in grabbing one of the greatly insufficient number of shots available even at far distances, which if they’re booking anybody at all now aren’t booking them until at least April), and didn’t luck out on the one local clinic that only got a few doses and had filled their appointments before most people even knew it was happening, then no, they haven’t been vaccinated.
All I get, from any site I check, pharmacy or otherwise, is ‘no appointments available’.
My 84 year old neighbor will be getting his first shot next week. This is ONLY because I was willing to help and because I am willing to drive him over a hundred miles to a different county. People should not be left to die because they don’t have online access or the ability to drive long distances.
So far no go for my 78 yr-old mother who doesn’t drive and doesn’t have an internet connection. I’ve been working to register her online and she’s calling as well, all to no avail to date. My 74 yr-old step-mother who does have internet and has an available driver (she has some vision impairment) - nope.
My almost 80-yr old father did get one dose and is due for the other in about a week. But that turns out to have been sheer luck in getting through on a county health service registration. One of a group of 11,000 initial openings in a county of 1.1+ million.
Just to close out my experience, I think I’m finally over it. 72 hours that I don’t want back. Will report back if there are any further downturns.
Glad you’re feeling better.
Sleep well, my friend. Hope you’re done with this.
Nope and no hope in sight. Tried to register with both my county health department and my state Covid registration sites. No way to tell or confirm if I succeeded.
As a nurse I worked the huge H1N1 vaccination push. It doesn’t have to be this way. This is politicalized class/race/social warfare.
Yes, all good. Thanks, and I hope my experience was unique and everyone else fares better.
72 hours after my second Pfizer shot, and suddenly my arm has started hurting again, and after feeling pretty good for the past three days I’m starting to feel a bit groggy and worn out. I’ll see how it goes.
I’m scheduled for a shingles vaccination next Friday. Does anybody have any information on how long I should wait before getting a covid vaccination?
The FAQ for the Pfizer vaccine say, “There should be a minimum interval of 14 days before or after administration with any other vaccines.”
So you should wait at least two weeks.
Agree with @Dewey_Finn (which is quite unusual in itself ), two weeks is what is standard, as I used as a nurse in vaccination pushes for H1N1.
Do get the Shingrix, you will be very glad you did (it’s a two shot series also, keep that in mind, but you have months of leeway in when you get the 2nd Shingles shot).
