Who sang 'I'm losing you' in the early '80s?

This is driving me bonkers, and has been for years. I know Rod Stewart sang ‘(I know) I’m losing you’ a long while back. And I know Rare Earth re-did the song.

But the version I am looking for is a dance/club version from the very early '80s or very late '70s. It has the same lyrics as the original, a female singer, and I just really want to know who sings/performs this! I want a copy! Badly!

Pleeeeeeease help.

Not New Zealander Sharon O’Neil(l) by any chance? She certainly had a hit here in Aust with a song of that name in the early 80s.

Thanks, I will check on that! I have tried doing searches on the name of the song, but have found nothing of consequence. I’ll check under that name. I hope that is who it is!!

If it is what I think it is, it was VERY popular in dance clubs in this area. It is on 12" vinyl and is a single. It was put out by Oaklawn Records here in Dallas. Depending on which version of the single you get, the group is either The Uptown Girls or just Uptown.

On both singles I have, the title of the song is “(I Know) I’m Losing You” The later release is a remix called “(I Know) I’m Losing You ‘89’”

Does that sound like the song you are looking for?

You can find it here: www.gemm.com (Do an artist/title search on “uptown” and you will find it a few pages down.)

If you aren’t sure, I can record a few clips of the song to MP3 and send them to you to be sure. Let me know and we’ll talk further via email.

To add some details, according to my Top Pop Singles book, “(I Know) I’m Losing You”, by Uptown, a “New York female dance-disco trio”, peaked at #80 on the U.S. Hot 100 in early 1987. The single was released on Oak Lawn 3810.

Yes! That sounds like it! Oh boy, oh boy…
:jumping up and down:
Meep, go to my page and email me if you want… we can talk about it further…

I looked up the Sharon O’Neil possibility and found nothing…

is that the same version of
(I know)I’m losing you by the Temptations in 1966 ?

Yes. According to Top Pop Singles, this song has hit the U.S. Hot 100 chart four times:

Temptations, #8, 1966
Rare Earth, #7, 1970
Rod Stewart with Faces, #24, 1971
Uptown, #80, 1987

(and it’s not a case of different songs with the same title – in that case the book would list the songs separately)
