Who should be the next host of "Jeopardy!"?

I’m surprized how poor of a host I think Oz is. For someone that has been on TV as much as he has, he’s too quick. Slow down. Speed kills.

And at times he reverts to a monotone when reading clues.

Oz is not getting better with practice.

In last night’s game, his pacing is all wrong. It’s difficult to tell if the contestents get a right answer. Not just for the audience - I think there were a couple times the contestants weren’t sure. He even let one flap in the wind, trying to amend his answer. Because that’s the usual cue - if you don’t get a hard denial right away, try to clarify. But he was way wrong. Oz should have been quicker with the “no”.

I’m still not sure what his charity is. Something with kids who have trouble with something?

The wikipedia controversy link doesn’t seem to mention when he warned the world about arsenic in apple juice:

I agree his pacing is off. And he stumbles with the off the cuff responses.
He’s the worst of the guest hosts in my book, but not as bad as I thought he was going to be.

I think it demonstrates that hosting a game show is not as easy as you might think. Pat Sajak’s job over at Wheel of Fortune looks easy but as I remember when Vanna White took over for a few weeks recently, she stumbled quite a bit. And she’s seen him do it thousands of times.

Not even for game show hosts. Watch Trebek on Classic Concentration. He was a bit rougher when he was younger.

And of course, my inability to be a good host in no way excuses Oz. When the producer is a better host than a celebrity, you know the celebrity isn’t a good host.

Jennings and Couric both started rough, but got better by the end of their runs, imo (she actually ranged into ‘good’, while he got to ‘I wouldn’t hate if he became the permanent host, even though he’d still be way down my list’), but I swear Oz is actually getting WORSE.

I liked Mike Richards best of all, so far.

Me too.

I won’t watch a single show if Doc Oz is the host.

But I will watch each show twice if either Stephen Fry or Hugh Laurie get the job.

I think Oz just fumbled the Final Jeopardy reveal. I mean, he said everything he had to say — but it seems like he forgot the fun part.

I’ll bet a lot of people were going “Travers? Who’s Travers?” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

The local Minneapolis station pre-empted Jeopardy (they’re fixated on the Chauvin trial), so I missed what the screw-up is. Care to post it, perhaps in a spoiler?

It was something along the lines of: this author so despised Hollywood’s music-laden adaptation of her work that she only allowed a stage version if no Americans would be involved.

The correct response was “Travers”, but Oz failed to then spell out for the audience, ‘and the work was Mary Poppins’. Just, uh, left “Travers” hanging there, is all.

The FJ clue was:

AUTHORS: BOOK TO SCREEN

Horrified by the 1964 movie musical from her work, she okayed a U.K. stage version as long as “no Americans” were involved

The correct response was/is:

(PL) Travers

The book/movie in question was, of course, Mary Poppins, a piece of information that was completely ignored. No mention of it whatsoever.

The champion guessed Christie (presumably Agatha), but the other two contestants got it right.

When I read the FJ clue, I thought “I don’t know. I’d guess ‘the person who wrote Mary Poppins,’ but I don’t know that person’s name.”

Then Oz came to the first contestant who wrote “who is Travers?” and just said “that’s right, P.L. Travers!” And I still had to pick up my phone and look up P.L. Travers to make the connection.

Oz looks like Namor the Submariner.
