Who should be the next host of "Jeopardy!"?

She should be automatically out of the running for not knowing how to pronounce “sphinx.” I had to go back and verify that I had distinctly heard “spinx.”

every host has to openly prostrate themselves before the Altar of Trebek. It’s like a cult of personality.

Agreed. It’s tiresome.

Am I ready for another week?

You got it!

Anybody else have Jeopardy seemingly preempted by golf Thursday and Friday of last week?

I had hoped Youtube TV would save me from that kind of thing, but no.

Yes! But I didn’t know until I read your thread that that’s what happened. I record Jeopardy! episodes onto my network attached storage; and couldn’t figure out why Thursday and Friday didn’t record. Now I’m going to assume that’s the reason; as Monday’s recorded just fine.

My revised rankings:

  1. Buzzy Cohen
  2. Anderson Cooper
  3. Mike Richards
  4. Aaron Rodgers
  5. Mayim Bialik
  6. Ken Jennings
  7. Savannah Guthrie
  8. Katie Couric
  9. Bill Whitaker
  10. Mehmet Oz

My rankings with ten guest hosts in the books:

  1. Aaron Rodgers
  2. Ken Jennings
  3. Mayim Bialik
    (gap)
  4. Anderson Cooper
  5. Buzzy Cohen
    (gap)
  6. Mike Richards
  7. Katie Couric
    (gap)
  8. Bill Whitaker
  9. Savannah Guthrie
    (HUGE gap)
  10. Oz

When does “The Goop” (as nobody calls him) find time to sleep? Afaict, he’s on CNN 24/7.

That is his Porn name.

When will The Powers That Be decide on a new host?

We get there when we get there!

I thought I read that the new host will be announced and start in time for the new season, which starts in September, I think.

Gupta is doing a fine job, but I doubt he’d quit his 24/7 day job.

I seem to remember that he was offered the Surgeon General position in the Obama administration but turned it down.

Gupta is my new #1 seed. He seems totally comfortable and natural.

They finished taping the current season in early May, and will start taping the next season in August, so they may very well have already selected the new host and started prepping him or her. (My money is on Buzzy.)

People at the Jeopardy! Contestants Facebook group have said there may be a new set, and I’m guessing there will be new arrangements of the theme and “think” music.

Although I seriously doubt there will be any changes to the basic rules of play, what other changes could we see in the new season?

Gupta was a very pleasant surprise, he did very well. Definitely near the top of my list.

Based on only one day…George can be thankful there’s Dr. Oz to keep him from the bottom. Still time to bounce back but he’s got a long way to go.

I did not get that feeling at all. I thought he was very good. What’s your objection?

I agree. I thought George did fine.

Gupta was okay, but he had a way of smirking that could be perceived as being condescending.

What I don’t get is the love for Aaron Rodgers, unless it’s because people are fans of his team, or like him from other appearances. I had never heard of him before he was on the show (not a sports fan) and I thought that as a Jeopardy host he was one of the worst. I thought he was somewhat stiff and wooden, didn’t interact well with the contestants in the interview segments, and on a few occasions demonstrated that he didn’t understand the clue or response. And he mispronounced a few words, IIRC.

His reaction when no one got the clue about the Packers was pretty funny, though.

My money is still on Buzzy Cohen for permanent host. I thought he did as well as anyone and I think the fact that they asked him to do the TOC is foreshadowing their decision.

(Full disclosure: I was in the process of moving when Mayim Bialik was on, so I didn’t see any of her shows.)

I was predisposed to hate him, being a Seahawk fan. I was surprised how much I like him. Maybe I’m just easy to please, but to me there was little difference among the guest hosts. To be honest, almost all are better than Alex.
