Who should be the next host of "Jeopardy!"?

I am completely on overload with all these characters. The Paradox of Choice? They are all starting to blend together. I also feel that it’s been proven that it’s not rocket surgery to host a game show.

No kidding, Huh? He always seemed like a smug Ass to me.

I really only ever watched the show to kick the crap out of the wife and kid. He’s gone, they’re gone. I don’t give a shit anymore.

I watched a couple of episodes of Wheel of Fortune when Vanna White hosted while Pat Sajak was recovering from some sort of medical procedure and she definitely didn’t do as smooth or good of a job as he did. And she had the benefit of watching him host for thousands of episodes.

Dude, you worry me sometimes. I selfishly hope you’re okay, because you’re one of my favorite posters.

My revised rankings:

  1. Buzzy Cohen
  2. Anderson Cooper
  3. Sanjay Gupta
  4. Mike Richards
  5. Aaron Rodgers
  6. Mayim Bialik
  7. Ken Jennings
  8. Savannah Guthrie
  9. Katie Couric
  10. Bill Whitaker
  11. Mehmet Oz

Don’t mind George Stephanopoulos, but I’m kind of over it. I feel like it lasted so long that I’m ready for them to pick someone, any one, and get on with it.

Of course, that might be the strategy.

I worry my Mother ALL the time. Feel lucky.

Updated rankings. Interesting that the remaining guest hosts have only one week…

  1. Aaron Rodgers
  2. Ken Jennings
  3. Mayim Bialik
    (gap)
  4. Anderson Cooper
  5. Sanjay Gupta
  6. Buzzy Cohen
    (gap)
  7. Mike Richards
    (gap)
  8. Katie Couric
  9. Bill Whitaker
    (gap)
  10. Savannah Guthrie
    (huge gap)
  11. Oz

What I really liked about Aaron Rodgers was that he really managed the flow of the game in a great way. He was great at reading the questions (as was Mayim Bialik, and like her, he really exuded intelligence in his role). I think he was good with the contestants and there was a underlying respect he displayed for the game itself and he was a great fit with the competitive element of the game as well. I am not a Green Bay Packers fan but I respect the guy as an accomplished, future Hall of Fame player.

Look alikes…
George Stephanopulous and former Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis

I didn’t know that. I wonder why. You’d think with the taping schedule (1 day of rehearsal, 2 days of taping 5 shows per day) that it would be much more difficult for the crew to have to work with two different inexperienced hosts in that span.

If I can ask this question, and I’m being sincere, but are people ranking Rodgers high just out of a sense of low expectations? He objectively was mediocre, as compared to the other hosts, in every respect, but I guess he was pretty good as compared to how most pro athletes would do.

Or is it likeability? I don’t personally like Mehmet Oz either, but he did an okay job.

My guess is that’s because the end of the season is a fixed date and there’s not enough time to give each guest host two weeks.

I think this has a lot to do with it. I don’t like Oz and I don’t like his snake oil show, but I have to admit he did just fine hosting Jeopardy. Still, it was kind of hard to watch his weeks. I think he would definitely be higher on people’s lists if nobody knew who he was.

But why did they sign up so many guest hosts? I think LeVar was grudgingly added because there was so much public demand for him, but what’s magic about Robin Roberts, David Faber (who?) and Joe Buck that they all had to have slots?

I don’t know anything about the last two, but I doubt Roberts (or Anderson, or Stephanopoulos, or a bunch of the others) would take the job, even if it were offered, so why are they hosting? I don’t believe that any of the last few are really in contention for the permanent job, so these aren’t auditions. As I’ve said above, I expect TPTB have already made their selection, so it’s not as though they need to gauge public reactions to these last four or five guest hosts.

So I assume that somehow Sony is making money by having them on, even for week-long stints.

To be more honest, they ALL have been better.

Except for the clock-eating Talking Head Video Clues, Trebek had been the only thing wrong with Jeopardy for a long, long time. Mrs. C and I have enjoyed the show since forever despite the now idolatrized AT.

When will be the first episode where there is no mention of Alex? Maybe after they’ve gone through all the temps?

Each guest host will definitely talk about their love of Alex, and the new permanent one will say what an honor it is to be following in his footsteps, at least at their first show.

They still have that screen “In Loving memory of Alex Trebek - Always in Our hearts”, or whatever the exact wording is, at the end of each episode.

He owed everything to Art Fleming.

Van Johnson and Paula Poundstone would’ve made an interesting host ‘team’. (new idea for the show) VJ’s no longer with us, leaving me stumped for any other likely teams. Coiln Firth and Paula Dean?
