Who should be the next host of "Jeopardy!"?

When I was on Jeopardy! (taped in February 2018), Alex would re-record the audio of any clues that he had stumbled or gotten tongue-tied on. It happened during the next commercial break, and was treated as absolutely routine.

During one of my games, they actually did stop the recording so that the judges could huddle about one of the contestant’s responses. They try not to do that, but in this case I guess they felt they had to. I get the impression that this is very rare. It really did throw us off our rhythm, so I understand why they don’t like to do it.

I can see how pausing the game could mess up the rhythm so that’s a good reason not to do it.

Can you post the tape for our mindless gawking purposes?

Not that I know of. The episodes were on YouTube at one time, but are long since gone.

I don’t think they will pick an unknown guy (to most people) like Buzzy but it’s possible. Also they could continue to try out people if they don’t like any they have used so far. In sports they say don’t follow the legendary coach and that might apply here too. The next guy/girl may not last if the ratings go down and don’t rebound quickly. Conan O’Brien can tell you about that.

As you may or may not know, Jeopardy will put up official videos that show all the answers to a particular category.

I just saw that guy who would say “What’s… [answer]” on YouTube. It seemed to me that he was immediately saying that to make sure he answered in the form of a question, then possibly still thinking about his answer. I could see that being something you do if you’re particularly worried about answering but not in the form of a question.

I didn’t mind Burton, except he seemed to be running slower than the clips I’d seen with Alex. And, oddly, I don’t remember running into those category clips with anyone else as host.

Back around post #443 I humbly opined that the celebrity hosts were nothing more than guests hosts, and that the permanent host would be a “professional” game show host. Several other posters agreed with me.

Now it’s three months later and I still think that’s the case. The new season will start after Labor Day and I still predict the new host will either be Buzzy, Ken Jennings, an outside chance Mike Richards will host as well as be executive producer. . . or no one anyone on this Board has considered.

I agree that the celebrities aren’t going to take the job; they all already have high-paying, high-profile jobs already. But neither Buzzy nor Ken do. So they could take the hosting position.

Mike Tyson! Yes, we have a winner!

Aaron Rodgers is 38 in Dec so he may very well retire after this season. Of course he could get a nice job working color on NFL games in 2022. also he’s marrying an actress so he might want to stay in LA

Honestly no idea what you’re taking about. Trebek was flawless.

Anyway, as to the guest hosts, I gotta admit that so far Buzzy Cohen has been the best. No one was BAD.

Mehmet Oz was perfectly good; he’s being ranked low because of who he is, not how he did.

I stand by my opinion.

“I have conducted a careful, scrupulous search, and after quite a bit of thought I have concluded that the best possible host is…me!”

Hasn’t that dude had some harassment lawsuits?

Found an attempt to summarize on Twitter…

Trebek was a condescending ass to the contestants. His “over pronunciation” of French words was almost to the point of smugness. And combine that with the fact he completely mispronounced Wisconsin city names, and the evidence shows he was far from “flawless”.

I bet if you grew up in a household where French was spoken, you’d pronounce French words as if you were speaking French as well. Heck, you might not even know the “correct” way to pronounce them as English loan words, and it likely would be harder than just pronouncing them as you originally learned them.

“Condescending ass” is a preposterous statement, and of course he pronounced French words well and didn’t always get cities in Wisconsin; he was of French Canadian descent, but didn’t speak Menominee or Chippewa.

Mike Richards would be a good choice. I’m a bit surprised he would want to leave his job as executive producer and return to on air talent. Some people might feel “been there, done that”.

I know the money is a incentive. But I suspect a executive producer makes good money too.

But who he is MATTERS. It would have enormous consequences in the show’s reputation. That’s not a small matter.

So now correct pronunciation is considered “over pronunciation”?

Yes. When you’re doing it to show off. Just like his affected “Russian” accents. But I’m sure he wasn’t perfect - I bet the Parisiens think he spoke French like an uneducated Canadian.

You liked Trebek - fine. He was a good host. He was also a jerk far too often on camera,
