Oh yeah, that’s a good choice. In addition to the resemblance, he just radiates ‘Midwestern’ vibes. At least, his P&R character did.
When did SNL impressions become “find someone who looks exactly like the Pres?” Chase didn’t look like Ford, Aykroyd didn’t look like Carter, etc.
Perhaps when it was realized that Tina Fey looked exactly like Sarah Palin. Now they can’t go back.
Gotta be Sean Astin.
Dana Carvey did a great Ross Perot, George Bush, and Biden. I think he’d be able to nail Walz also.
Jim Gaffigan should be in the running, but he has to lose the stubble. He’s slimmed down recently. Maybe he should put a few pounds back on.
I agree that ideally, it should be a current cast member; perhaps one of the new cast members could do it?
A.I. Don Rickles.

Steve Martin says he declined to play Tim Walz on ‘SNL’ because he’s ‘not an impressionist’
Steve Martin has finally weighed in on all the online speculation about whether he will play newly minted vice presidential candidate Tim Walz on “Saturday Night Live.”
The comedian and actor told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published on Wednesday that he was approached regarding the possibility by “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels that morning, but declined.
“I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no,” Martin told The Times.
“I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy,’” he added. “I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses.”
Drew Carey has lost a lot of weight lately. He doesn’t even look like Drew Carey anymore.
The mystery grows about all these Hollywood celebs losing weight.
In case you’re suggesting he used Ozempic or another GLP-1 agonist, Drew Carey lost weight years before those meds were available.
How 'bout Eric Stonestreet? He could so pull off the Dad Vibe.
Any outsider, like Eric Stonestreet or Jim Gaffigan, would have to clear their schedule for the weekend and be flown in for the occasion. Much easier if it’s a regular cast member.
I think a cameo actor would be fine for a potential VP. And even an actual VP unless they were doing VP sketches every week.
My vote is Jim Gaffigan too. He brings that authentic wholesome midwestern goodness and is only two years younger than Walz
I believe Gaffigan lives in Manhattan, so it would be an easy commute.

Physical resemblance isn’t important. It’s about bringing out the inner joke of the person.
As Malcolm Gladwell points out, McCarthy’s Sean Spicer was a much funnier impression than Baldwin’s Donald Trump, even though McCarthy didn’t really look or sound anything like Sean Spicer. McCarthy tapped into an inner truth about Spicer and played it up - his anger and frustration at his ridiculous job. Baldwin failed to do the same, he just acted silly.
I agree. That’s why my immediate thought was Sudekis. He can easily slip into that midwestern affability.
