Now we all sit on pins and needles, waiting to see whether we play the Yanks or the A’s. Currently bottom of the fourth, the score’s 3-2 with the Yanks leading, and Knoblauch singles to center.
As a Mariners fan, I can’t decide who I’d rather the M’s face. For getting to the Series, I’d rather go against the Yankees, because the M’s have had their number pretty much all year. The A’s, by contrast, have been incredibly tough; the record of M’s vs A’s this season comes out something like 13 and 12, the M’s by a nose. So the strategic view is to prefer the opponent you’re more likely to beat.
But as a baseball fan in general, I’d rather face the A’s, because the discussion after the season will be which team was really better, given the incredible tear Oakland went on after the All-Star break. If the M’s lose to the A’s, the A’s will beat up the NL team and nobody will feel bad. If the Yanks pull it out against Oakland and face the M’s, everybody – myself included – will wonder how the M’s would have done against the real second-best team in the AL.
I have nothing constructive, sports-wise, to add to this thread. I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS, CHERI!!
because she’s such a cool lady. Please don’t get killed in your sleep, OK?
I want to say that I was SHOCKED to see the A’s lose tonight. I can’t believe they’re out of it. And I am encouraged, now, because I KNOW the M’s can take New York. We swept them AT NY this season.
Of course, if Boone and Olerud don’t start hitting the ball, It may be a short, one-sided series.
Too, bad, Mauvaise. Sorry the As are out of it. But at least now, ScottiDear, you won’t have to fight with her this weekend. Whew! You’re safe, for now.
